Where holiday stuff becomes zoo-like

This time of year lends itself to pure chaos in our household.  One might even call it a zoo. (One – his name is aka, my husband – one who patiently waits for this stage to end…!)

I must confess though, it sure the heck looks zoo-like as I walked past all the undone stuff on my way to my office this morning.  Oh, my, I know what this weekend has planned for me.

December in Wisconsin gives us temperatures outside opposite of the temperatures inside.  Despite the opportunities for heated moments inside, we’re anxiously (in a weird kind of way) waiting for the snow to appear outside to chill things off.

When there is snow on the ground, it just makes all the hassle of decorating seem more appropriate for some reason.  Maybe the lack of snow has slowed my progress…(yeah, that’s it…)?

Our cats are in zoo-heaven though.  Tizzie, inquisitively moves from pile or box sniffing and hiding on or under all the new turf.  For some odd cat reason, the messier it is, the more comfortable both cats are.  Likely due to all the napping spots that have magically appeared.

There are piles and piles of stuff everywhere!  It takes one (me) time to bring order as I sort through decorations and wrap presents.

Not only do the cats appear ecstatic with all the stuff around them on the floor – they know soon the tree will appear and provide yet another opportunity for the disorder they enjoy.

Copper is not so excited.  All the boxes, and noises, and movement stresses him out.  He even drools as he naps.  Poor little guy.  He’s resorted to spending as much time on the safety zone of his little bed as he keeps a watchful eye on things.

He’ll recover once all the boxes are stored away.  The cats and other strange creatures will blend in and won’t be lurking in strange places ready to pounce on him either.

Once the creation of our magical winter wonderland and lights softly glowing on the tree is complete – he too will be ready for enjoyment.

Dessy, well, she’s comfortable wherever she finds a spot to lay.  I think she sleeps with her eyes open – that way she can see when we head to the kitchen where her food is stored.  As in any other zoo setting – she knows the feeding must go on.

Despite the zoo-like chaos, I enjoy this time of year.  I adore the opportunity to strategically place the items that have won my heart over the years as worthy of making the cut for display in our little zoo-like home-sweet-home for the holidays.
