‘Tis the season to tip my frosty hat

Wherever I go, ‘Tis the season to tip my hat as it overflows my memory bank.

On display at our house, are shiny and bright reminders of the season.

By day there’s, of course, snow.

Thrown snow.
IMG_1630csskrupa4
Snow so high, when you step out in it, you wanna rush right back into the house.
IMG_1632csskrupa4
The wind plays artfully with it, though.

By night, it’s another sight.

Three or more times it has snowed by night.

Oh, what a delight, right?

Each morning, we wake having been left with more snow for us to see and move.

One day, we even had an extra expensive surprise to arrive.

A water wellhead was frozen solid at one of our rentals.

Not quite enough snow to cover it and protect it before the freezing temps hit it I guess.  24 hours later, they were back in business.

IMG_1678csskrupa4

Our snow is high enough to have to shovel so the dog can pee.  Really.

Thankfully he goes out.
IMG_1700csskrupa4
And comes right back in.

Copper’s smart, he knows it’s cozy inside.

IMG_1669csskrupa4
Even if we’re missing the once little folks playing around in our empty nest.
IMG_1688csskrupa4
The faux snowmen inside are cozy.
IMG_1652csskrupa3
They’re in good company.

A 30-year angel watches over them and the tree.  Keeping it safe from the two cats.

Who play with tiny trinkets made years and years ago instead.
IMG_1662csskrupa4
I glance around at glimpses of memories of Christmases past.
IMG_1666csskrupa4
Adventures we’ve had and the family members we miss.
IMG_1668csskrupa4
I chuckle…we still know how to go through the dough, though.

We know, this season isn’t about the dough spent, more so about what’s saved…

IMG_1671csskrupa4
Gentle reminders remind me…
IMG_1675csskrupa4
A simple beginning was for those who believe.

All I know is that when I look around, I can’t help but notice beauty abound.

IMG_1703csskrupa4
Pine trees display snow above the ground everywhere covered in white.
IMG_1686csskrupa4
‘Tis the season that may be blurry for some.
IMG_1684csskrupa4
Or for others, it’s crystal clear.

Memories here in our neck of the woods are clear and bright.

From our home to yours, we’re sending you…

Post inspiration – Check out Amy’s post at Lens-Artists #76 On Display (I’m so touched by her recommendations of my post about sheet music, thank you Amy!!) and Terri over at Sunday Stills Holiday Decor.  I’m with all of those lovely ladies, the rest of the year is a time to pause and celebrate.  So yeah, that means I’ll be sparse in my efforts and presence in the blogosphere.  I’m super excited though…my children’s book is coming along nicely!  I guess missing my kids has kicked me into a different kind of writing gear!

PS – Happy ‘Tis the season of the year to you and yours – may what you celebrate be bright and cheery and just right for you!  xx

  1. I know they’re probably singing or making some wonderful sound, but those two angles look like they’re yawning. Maybe a little cup of coffee next to them might help.

    Beautiful, seasonal photos!

    1. LOL – I’ve never thought of them as yawning, but now I’ll never think otherwise ;-)! Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed the photos!

  2. Lovely Christmas decoration and displaying, Shelley. All are beautiful and special carrying wonderful memories. “Gentle reminders remind me…” so sweet.
You got a lot of snow there, Wow… Stay warm. 🙂 🙂

  3. A heart warming post, Shelley! Family – that is beautiful. And I do love all the snow on display! Rain, rain, rain here.

    1. Aw, thank you, Ann-Christine. Your photos this week are so creative for the prompt. I love the bulbs and the street vendor shots too. Of course, the books would draw me in too! Nice job. I look forward to the next challenge. Enjoy your break. I hope there’s a break in the rain too!

      1. So glad you are with us, Shelley, always calm and positive – grounded. Merry Christmas and see you in next challenge!

        1. Thank you, Ann-Christine! I appreciate your words of encouragement. Merry Christmas to you too – see you next challenge!

      2. Thank you – yes a rain break would have been just great…Luckily there is a computer to look at bright pictures!

  4. We have that same angel on our tree, or at least one very similar! Love your decorations. Maybe next year I’ll have the ambition to decorate all over the house. This year I was too consumed with the shows I was doing. The snow is beautiful but I wouldn’t want to have to shovel it all. It’s bad enough when I have to take Benny for his walk in the rain!

    1. I think the angel was common back in the late 80s. I think you did great with what you accomplished. I say the decorations aren’t what matter most anyhow. Yes, snow is pretty, but it’s not fun to shovel in the frigid cold! There’s no walking the dog in this stuff.
Copper thinks Benny’s lucky he can get outside. 😉

  5. A warm, wonderful post from your very cold world Shelley. Your snow is gorgeous—as long as you keep it there! Merry Christmas to you and yours and all the blessings of the season

    1. Thank you, Tina. All the colors and hot tips you shared in your post are inspiring me as I close out this year and still need to donate the items I’m weeding out! Many blessings and Merry Christmas to you and yours too. See you after the break!

  6. Beautiful decorations, Shelley and wow, all that snow! Your warm house looks lovely and festive and I’m sure the view of the snow adds magic to the scene (as long as you don’t have to spend too much time out there). Enjoy your blogging break, as I will mine and Merry Christmas to you and your lovely family!

    1. Thank you, Terri! Yes, we’ve been blessed with snow in our section of the state. I don’t mind seeing a white Christmas. I wonder if that means we’ll have a green spring?! Enjoy your break too. Merry Christmas to you and yours!!

  7. You certainly have enough snow over on your side of the state. Poor Copper, if it wasn’t for the humans and their shovel…

Have a wonderful Christmas, Shelley. It appears you have plenty of decorations and lights to celebrate the season. Let’s just hope there are no snowstorms before the 25th.

    1. Yes, we do have the snow here. I hope you get a little bit to freshen up the ground. Copper wishes he was a cat about now.
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas too, Mary!! Stay warm and safe!

  8. Wow … that is some serious snow. I love to get up early in the morning and see all the critter tracks going in all directions. Thanks for sharing. g

  9. Dang…you got the snow! We keep getting snow and then rain. Teasers of white with melting in between. And this is the time of year when I welcome snow…it’s Christmas! And it’s brighter with it, trust me. So. Dang. Dark. here lately. It’s downright depressing. So I sat on the couch and read a book and then napped yesterday. LOL.

Your decorations are cute and I’m sure they’re comforting. I have a ton of ornaments that are my “kids'” ornaments, and I love to put them out…even the ones they made in elementary school. Great memories. We’re getting little grandkids here this year, so that will be big fun. And insane. haha. This week will be cleaning and prep work…they arrive on Friday.

    1. Yes, I feel like it’s January or February or March with all this snow. I’d send some your way if I could. There are many dark days, and I’m with you on feeling the blues. I haven’t napped yet, just go to bed early. Copper wines to tell me it’s time to retire.
Aw…thanks. I pull out some of the kids stuff too – just for fun. My mom painted the wreathe on the wall.
That’s so wonderful to have grandkids there! I bet you’re so excited. Happy prep time. Merry Christmas to you and yours! PS – I want you to know your visits here are a gift to me. xxxx

  10. Very sweet my best to you for a very Merry Christmas, and don’t worry about the dough, because as my Mom would sing “you can’t take it with you when you go”

  11. The enormity of the snow, the realization that only half of December is gone and it is still a week til Winter arrives … I don’t know how you do it Shelley. I will grant you it is beautiful. especially where you can look out and see a snow-white vista where no cars have chugged through it and made it dirty, but the depth already … you will be breaking more than the record you mentioned to me about 10 days ago. Poor Copper. Oh ya – poor Mr. too for needing to plow it. The decorations are homey – I have to take out decorations next year. I just took out a few small ornaments only. More next year and your Christmas family photos are especially nice.

    1. Yes, indeed, we have plenty of snow for a white Christmas this year. You’ve been busy making sure you get your miles in before you get snow! Decorations can wait for another time. Thank you for all your words of encouragement, Linda, you’re a gift! I so appreciate you!! I’ll be by your blog soon to catch up!

      1. I have a very long post today Shelley – it might take you two cups of coffee in your big mug, and three clementines to finish it. 🙂 We were supposed to get 1-3 inches of snow tonight but it is headed more south, to Ohio, now so we dodged a bullet but may have a wintry mix coming in Wednesday morning … I did all my year-end errands now and unless something unexpected happens, I don’t have to dedicate any free time to errands for at least three weeks – more walking time!

        1. I loved your post. I did munch on two cookies…was there a squirrel spy watching me?! We’ve got -12 here, so I’ll be staying inside today. I hope the snow missed you. Stay warm. xx

          1. Aha – two cookies, not just one and I said you were good to only have one! (Just kidding.) We had a “real feel” around zero, so quite a frosty feeling and blowing and drifting as well. The snow was minimal and has now blown away – wish that was the case every time it snowed. Poor Copper. I feel for him. You stay warm too Shelley.

  12. Here we go again! Snow and more snow. Lovely photos as always. It looks like you are ready for Christmas. A book for children! What a fantastic project 🙂
Have a wonderful holiday in your new kitchen. Stay warm!

    1. Yes, indeed. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that it won’t snow on Christmas, we already have it white around here! Yes, a book for children – I hope it turns out. We’re enjoying our kitchen and it’ll be fun to have the kids home for the holiday. Stay warm and cozy and enjoy your family time too! xx

    1. Aw, thank you! It’s definitely feeling like Christmas here. And it came up so fast! I’ll be taking the tree down in less than 2 weeks?

        1. I’m into less is more this year. In decorations, especially. I sure wish the snow would’ve followed suit. I do like white on Christmas though! Stay warm and cozy!!

    1. The weather has been strange, not quite a gift I’d say. I hope you’re able to stay warm and cozy and spend time enjoying the view of the things you love!
