The true meaning of holiday shopping revealed

Whilst (don’t ya just love that word, it sounds so…like I know what I’m saying kind of way?) I was out doing last-minute Christmas shopping, I discovered the true meaning of holiday shopping.

Really?

Seriously?

Yep –

And it isn’t all just fun and games and wordplay, either.

Yes, by the way, Quim is a word.  If you add an ‘s’ you get points too, according to Mr.  I came up with quim and he added the ‘s’ for his word.

Where was I?

Oh, yes, the true meaning of Christmas shopping.

First, a few tips to maximize the experience:

#1  Have a list or you’ll end up walking all over the place.  And that just takes up valuable time.

#2  You shouldn’t worry about finding that perfect fits like a ‘T’ item for everyone on your list.

#3  You can’t be too picky,

– look for things that stand out to you as something you wouldn’t mind getting yourself.  You can always return items later.

#4  Move fast, or you might get spotted by someone you didn’t want to see.

#5  Even if you look away, know that you’ve been spotted.  If you’re lucky they might turn and go the other way ‘cuz they feel the same way – no time to waste here, time is of the essence when you’re shopping.

#6  If you take too long shopping whilst (yay…2 times in one post, I’m killing it here) you look for something perfect, you’re gonna regret it.

IMG_0061csskrupa

Wait…why will you regret it?

Because of the facts, Jack, when you’ve taken too long by all the meandering around the store hoping to discover the perfect gift, your aging bladder will be working its magic and you’ll be standing in line and have to PEE.

And you’ll have to hold it.

Until you’re done paying for all the stuff.

Once you’re done in the line, you can’t just leave the cart alone by itself by the bathroom, with all the bags of stuff you just purchased.

So you’ll have to run to your car while trying not to leak.  And then have to decide if you should drive home, or run back into the store.  To PEE.

And then the real meaning of holiday shopping suddenly hits you.

You’re shopping for gifts for the people who aren’t so little anymore.

And you wish you were with them, ‘cuz it’s more fun shopping with others.

You can’t wrap up being together with family under the tree, no matter how long you hold your pee.  (Shh…it rhymed…!)

The true meaning of shopping – is really about the moments of being together – that’s what makes Christmas festive and meaningful.  The rest of the stuff is just a blur from year to year.

Post Inspiration – Holiday shopping and Sunday Stills – Festive

PS – What is your favorite holiday shopping story?  It doesn’t have to involve bladder issues, either!  What do you think of the blurry photos?

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Terri – and for the opportunity to link up to the Sunday Stills! Cheers to you this season and always!

  1. Gosh they grow up fast don’t they. I am at the point where shopping consists of finding a card and putting a check it in. The grand kids are growing so fast and 1000 miles away so I don’t know their interest anymore. Maybe that is why my daughter and I love that Christmas ornament shopping trip once a year. The fun and festive time of sharing each other. Have a great week.

    1. Yes, they grow fast. Money never goes out of style for gifts. That is so wonderful that you and your daughter still share that tradition together every year. I imagine each ornament has a shopping story memory to treasure as you put the ornaments out on the tree each year. Hope you have a great week too.

    1. Thank you, Linda. Yes, Dessy is one to watch and wait for food to appear whenever humans are near. She’s like Parker in that way!

      1. My friend Carol lives in NY and shelters feral cats on her back porch all year around, plus has two of her own cats. When her cats are ready for breakfast, Carol is up very early, but if she has dared to sleep to 5:30, they will come and wake her up and she’ll go downstairs and find the ferals (Mama and kittens) looking in the doorwall at her. This especially happens in the Summer when the sun is up earlier. They are relentless about their food.

  2. My favorite shopping trips were the ones my mom and I made to the big sales at the mall right after Christmas. She paid, but it was more than that–just us and such a treat. Miss those days!
