The sunrise of my 540th post

Do you wake up every morning, bright, full of energy, and ready to tackle the day?  Do you sing while the sun rises?

Or are you shy, like me, and whisper because you can’t carry a tune, and you hum instead?

Sing it with me…”Good morning, sunrise, how are you?”  (not the right words, but you’ll see, it’ll all come together, eventually…)

Mornings are my favorite time of the day, until the sunsets, and then that’s my favorite time of the day.  Yeah, I don’t mind the stuff in-between either…so every day I’m alive is a good day.

Jeez…just pick one, already.

Okay…Sunrise it is!

Today, the sun will rise (thank goodness for the faithful sun!) on my 10th Dry January day.

I’m happy to report that I’m feeling fricken’ fantastic – really, I am.

IMG_9915csskrupa3

That first week was challenging, but every day since day 7, it has gotten better.  Like frost forming and then melting on windows as the sun rises, I’m enjoying all the different things about this, my sectioned up Dry January phased approach – 10 days at a time adventure (remember, I’m making small milestones, 10 days first, then 20, then 31…!).

Mostly, I’m noticing the minute changes I feel each day.

I even got partially over missing my bite-sized Tostitos.  I must confess I counted out 37 stick pretzels as an alternative the evening before yesterday.   That carb fix warmed my cheeks for a moment or two (I blushed to grab the bag sitting next to my old faithful friends in the pantry, and then proceeded to count each one of the temporary friends out of the bag).  Mr. watched the whole thing.

Mr:  “Are you counting them?”

Me:  “Yeah, I’m making sure it is less than a serving.”

Mr:  “How many are in a serving?”

Me:  “53…”

Man…it feels so good to confess to my weak carb craving moments.  No beer chaser though!

As I write this post, my 540th one (yay me!), the sun hasn’t even started to crest the horizon yet.  It’s quiet here.  The pets fed, the coffee brewing, the Mr. sleeping, and it is just me, my keyboard, and you, the person who stopped by to take a peek at my little space in the blogosphere.

Thank you, by the way, I’m happy to see you.  You’re welcome here any time, and I hope you enjoy what I wrote.

I have written a lot…by the way – not that I’m into counting things…okay, I am…!

I looked back at my previous posts to find how many times I wrote about sunrises – it was too many to count.  Thank goodness for the searchability function in WordPress (at least its got that going for it…!), ‘cuz, YIKES – I’ve been busy cranking out ramblings almost every day since I started blogging.  At least I’ve got that going for me.

Besides sunrises, sunsets, and walks in the morning, and flowers, etc., blogging is a form of therapy.

If it is your first read or your 10th read, or you’re just popping by randomly, I don’t mind, I understand it if you weren’t here with me all the days since I started.

It’s okay, you’ve got a busy life too.

I get it, live it, and tolerate that part of life too.  Busyness is just what we do.

IMG_6674csskrupa

When I feel that overwhelming busyness feeling, mornings are the perfect time to stop, pause, and reflect.  It’s a good thing to do.

Just let your mind wander about the beauty and wonder of the world that we’re all reaching to discover every day.  And if those moments involve some jibber jabber ramblings along the way, the earth, I hear, is always happy to listen to your songs about loving life.

Go ahead, grab a cup of coffee, tea, or beverage of choice, and if you’re lucky, too, a hand of someone you love, and pause – take time to watch the sunrise (feel free to sing along, if you remember this song – I encourage you to sing, and I understand if it is off-key!).

Post Inspiration – Linda G. Hill’s #JusJoJan Day 10 – Sunrise, the full list of prompts can be found here, and today’s prompt thanks to Toortsie  – check our her post today, too!)

PS – Tell me about your favorite sunrise.  What do you enjoy about sunrises, is it the colors, the peacefulness, the start of a new day?

  1. Lovely photos. I’ll ignore the song (I can’t stand it) but I would take a different approach on the pretzels. If they say 53, they usually also say something like 1/4 cup. I’d take a 1/4 cup measuring thingie, stuff it full of pretzels then put one back in the bag and eat the rest.

  2. Beautiful photos, and love seeing your kitty on the window sill with the plants. Super song…one of my all time favorites! 🙂

    1. Thank you, so nice to hear from you, I’ve missed you, and that reminds me I need to stop by and see what you’ve been up to too! Your poem about sunrises made me smile – it’s so lovely! Nice work!

  3. Oh! That first photo is so awesome Shelley! Love it! I also thought it was cool how you found a trident in the sky. It’s pretty dreary here today, so all of that sunshine/sunrise perked me up!

    1. Aw, thank you! Early morning photos are fun to take :-)! I’m glad my post brightened your day, your comments brightened mine! 🙂

  4. Not a fan of the song but I love the photos and yes, I have counted out pretzel sticks, chips and all manner of things to get 1 serving or even half a serving depending on the calories. I try to limit my snacks to 100 calories or less. Happy 540!

  5. When you “sang” Good morning sunshine – “Starshine” is exactly where my brain went. I do love the sunrises and sunsets but we will have to wait until late spring/early summer for me to see them. Since I retired I swore I would not get up at 5:30 again ever. Great pictures.

    1. Aw, that’s great that the song sparked happy memories. Thanks for the comments and kudos about the photos, too :-)! I love early mornings, so I’ll make sure to share photos of what you’re missing while sleeping in. Can you catch star one for me…? I’m in bed way too early to see those!!?

        1. Aw, thanks, I look forward to seeing them. I saw that there was a storm approaching – I hope you don’t get too much snow! Our ground is mostly bare, we could use a little bit of snow to make it feel more like winter instead of late spring. But…I sure don’t want a blizzard! Take care!

  6. Once again, gorgeous photos! Since I am not a morning person, I rarely witness a sunrise. They are beautiful though. The song that comes to my mind on this topic is “A Beautiful Morning” by the Rascals. I remember being woken up by it – blasted out of the summer camp announcement system – every morning for a month when I was a CIT. Loved it every time.

    1. Aw, thank you! Sunrises and sunsets are both beautiful, I hope you’re able to catch sunsets. I remember that song, too. So fun that it reminded you of camp. I love how music triggers those memories. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

  7. Hi Shelley – I think both sunrises and sunsets are beautiful. There are no clear vistas to enjoy a sunrise or sunset in my neighborhood – tried both ways, the last time, a sunset on Saturday and the beauty was obliterated by the trees. My neighbor went down to the River every day to watch the sun rise. I have been there early but not to see the sun-streaked sky as you have portrayed here in your pictures … I am surely missing something.
P.S. – I was here at 10:27 p.m. … got this message when I tried to comment on your actual site: I can’t show you the little box with the frowny face unfortunately:

    jetpack.wordpress.com unexpectedly closed the connection.

    1. Sunsets are fascinating to me as the temperatures change in the morning – the blue tones are especially pretty to capture. Hmm…I have set the “auto” update feature for Jetpack and I’m assuming that’s what is causing the issue. I hope it has been resolved by the time you see this reply?! Let me know!

      1. Yes, they are beautiful – wish there were not so many houses around, but east is the river and I aim to go this Summer and get a few … they had the road to the river torn up all Summer and that street is the easiest access point … also, our crime is bad – I am not out in the dark ever anymore. I will let you know … I was able to comment on the WP portion only and it did not say “awaiting moderation”.

        1. Thank you! Thank you, too, for being safe, I’m glad to read you don’t go where crime is bad or out in the dark!!!

          1. Thanks Shelley – years ago, I never thought about it – out with friends way past dark, driving home in the dark, even starting work at 6:45 a.m. when I worked at the diner through school In the dead of Winter, I’d be out there scraping my car windows, brushing off the snow to drive to work and it was 6:00-6:15 a.m. and never thought twice about it … different times, different people living in the ‘hood – a whole different era sadly.

  8. Also, interestingly you can comment here and it doesn’t display the message that “your comment is awaiting moderation” like it does on your actual site.

    1. I had also changed that setting in WordPress – I think (just speculating, as one will never truly know) that there is a problem between my .com and my .org sites with JetPack. Keep me posted as to what you see.

      1. I just remembered I was supposed to check – you had not posted yet when you asked … it was A-OK today Shelley. I could comment directly in the comment space on your actual site.

  9. Thank you fot participating. I enjoyed your post very much. About trying to have a dry January, all I can say, is, be strong. Be coutageous. You can do it. You already did 10 days, what about double it?

    1. Thank you, Toortsie – I enjoyed participating and I enjoyed meeting you here in the Blogosphere. Thank you for the words of encouragement for Dry January. Yes, 10 days down and I plan on continuing to double that, then I’ll see…10 days at a time, yes, I can do it….!!
