So yeah, it’s cold, cold, cold, really cold!

I wonder if ink in feather pens froze when these words of wisdom were penned?

Now is the winter of our discontent. – William Shakespeare

O, wind, if winter comes, can spring be far behind?  – Percy Bysshe Shelley

Post Inspiration – Thank goodness for Linda G. Hill’s #1LinerWeds and #JusJoJan – it’s only 67 degrees in my office, and typing with mittens on is hard to do!  Poor bunnies, they can’t find their way to their home under our Tea House in the back yard!

PS – Stay warm!  Do you ever wonder how the birds and animals in nature are able to survive the bitter cold spells?  I sure do.  What’s the temperature where you’re located?

  1. Brrrrr. Having lived in Chicago as a kid I remember snow and cold but the temperatures that are hitting the U.S. right now are awful. Stay warm.
Oh, it is 55 degrees and sunny here in Spain.

    1. Yes, it’s not warm – sunny yesterday, but not warm! Enjoy the warmth you have – it’ll help the grapevines grow! Cheers to you!

  2. How cold is it really, Shelley? 😉

I’m so happy to be staying home today. I feel very sorry for anyone who has to go out in the frigid temps. Thankfully, this deep freeze is not going to last beyond tomorrow. A warm-up is coming!

    1. Too cold!! LOL! Me too, I rescheduled an appointment I had for today, so I could stay home. I’m so happy the cold will be moving on tomorrow night. Warm enough to rain this weekend? Whiplash winter! Enjoy the warmth of your home office today. I’m sure the kitties are happy too!

      1. I can see a certain group of Wisconsinites who will be wearing their shorts this weekend. I will take the rain over the snow and cold, but it’s gonna make a mess. At least they can throw salt down and make the roads better.

        1. LOL – yeah, I know a few of those who will have shorts on too. I’ll take the warmth too – the rain on the snow though, that is going to be messy.

  3. It’s been years since I snowmobiled in those temps! Wow. That’s deeeep cold. Currently 45, heading for 64 today. I see some bunny tracks in the snow. Or whatever they are. 😬❤️

    1. It would require the heated snowmobiles to get me out in it today. Enjoy the warmth you’ve got in Vegas. Yes, they are poor little ol’ bunny tracks.

  4. Well, I disagree with Robert Frost. Too much winter is already happening. Although when the sun is shining it is easier to take. We are bracing for tomorrow’s single digit temps. Balmy today at 29 degrees F.

  5. We’re hoping to get to zero as our high and the wind chill is similar to yours. BRRR. And we keep getting more lake effect snow. If you look at the national radar, we’re that blue blob on the east side of L. Michigan. It’s beautiful, but life has basically shut down here until it passes. Makes me want to eat carbs. LOL

    1. Yikes – you’re getting double whammy weather. I hear that shivering burns off calories, so a few extra carbs can’t hurt!!

  6. My family keeps asking me why would I volunteer to move here. Well, yes it is beyond cold but fortunately it doesn’t do this every year and in the south it DOES stay hot 4-6 months depending on where you are. I moved up here during the middle of May and it was 101 the day I moved. When I got to Iowa, it was 74 and cooled down to 65 the first night. Loved it. So I will take a week or so of wintery blast vs months of heat.

    1. I enjoy the 4 seasons, I think I’d really miss them if I didn’t have them. I do like to get a way to some place warm in the bitter cold of winter though…!

  7. I’ve been on the road, tying to stay warm in a hotel room that wanted to be cold. I’m dreading going into my office tomorrow. With a space heater running, I don’t usually see 67 until about 11:00 (I start at 6:30). On Monday, it was 57 in my office when I arrived.

It’s cold here, but not by your standards. Stay warm, as best you can. I hope the bunnies can stay warm as well as our bunnies and squirrels.

    1. Yikes – that’s cold work environment for sure. My office all day stayed around 68 degrees. I have layers and lots of warm beverages (coffee, hot water, Matcha) just to stay warm. Hope you stay warm too. Thanks for thinking of the little critters, too!

  8. I love the way you alternated the pictures with the quotes. My two favorites were the one by Frost (ironic name for this quote, eh?) and Robert Byrnes’. Hoping the warmup happens as predicted by the weather gurus.

  9. High of 53 today in South Texas. Not too bad considering what the folks north of of us are getting. My dogs love this weather. They get a little more frisky. Their dog house is heated but when it gets cold like this, they lie outside. Silly boys 🙂

    1. LOL – that’s great that your dogs enjoy it, how fun for them! I was talking with some reps for work that live in Texas, they were shocked when I told them how cold it was in Wisconsin. They couldn’t even imagine it.

      1. Even in the coldest part of the state which I believe would be Amarillo, I don’t think they get temperatures anywhere near what you guys do. Though they are more likely to see snow than the rest of us.

        1. That is so fascinating to me. I guess it is hard for me to imagine winter without snow and cold, not that I love it, but I do enjoy the 4 different seasons.

  10. It’s around zero tonight, with a windchill around -20º. Much too cold to be comfortable out there. And yes, I do wonder about how the birds and woodland creatures survive these temps. Poor little things.

  11. According to my phone currently -3C which is about 26F if that converter doesn’t lie to me. Nowhere near as cold as in other places but it froze the fog quite nicely on the trees. Am venturing out soon to take the dog (if she can be bothered in this weather that is) to take some photos. Have a great day and stay warm.

    1. That’s a heat wave for us! It’s -30 below this morning at 5:30 am. There are ice crystals forming in the air from the steam coming from our furnace vents. Thank goodness for our furnace!

  12. Love these quotes Shelley! I have used the “Winter of our Discontent” once for a title … so true. Seeing your digital temperature readings – no fun and let’s get going toward Spring as this is far too cold! We are finally moderating tonight, if -3 air temp and -13 is considered moderating?

      1. I thought so too! It felt balmy this morning, so I ditched the bandana. I stopped the taps just a little while ago – had dripping, no trickles today. We are having a warm-up but rain tomorrow afternoon and since the pavement has been so cold, they anticipate black ice to form, so maybe a walk tomorrow morning and that’ll be it – sigh.

        1. Yes, it is 11 degrees above this morning – Copper was happier to go outside today. Hope you’re able to get a walk in before the black ice forms!

          1. Yay Copper. It was actually beautiful out today – yes it was just 6 and a windchill of 16, and the sun came out after the groundhog saw his shadow but still a lot of ice in the street, and on the sidewalks … that freezing rain did a number on the snow, so I skipped my walk regretfully – hopefully tomorrow I can get out and walk and get to the Park.

          2. This morning it was 38 and he ventured out even further into the yard to do his business. We had drizzle all night, so much of our snow is gone. Just in time for next week’s snows to hit. I hope it is nicer for you today so you can go out and walk!

          3. Copper is saying “Groundhog don’t fail me now!” I did go out Shelley and waited until 1:00 p.m. when it was 50 degrees – unbelievably almost 70 degrees higher than Thursday. It was very balmy but I still had to watch the ice patches, especially at the Park where it was stretched across the pathway. I walked in the street going to/from the Park as it was safer than taking the sidewalk – tomorrow may not work as there’s more traffic in the streets. I hated to come inside. One more day, then reality hits again.

          4. Glad to hear you got to go out for a walk. It was crazy foggy here, and drizzly, so we didn’t go out. Copper did, though, and so did the rabbits. It has felt like early Spring here. Weird…weird…weather this past week!

          5. Yes, very balmy here today. Ran some errands before the next onslaught of ugly weather Tuesday into Wednesday – 1/4 inch or more of freezing rain and treacherous driving. I don’t even think I’ll venture out for running the car that morning. So I went for a carwash … entering the carwash, the sun was out, exiting the carwash, it started to rain. Car got all wet in the space of one mile. Mother Nature couldn’t have waited five minutes?
