In rural Wisconsin, where we live, mountains aren’t a common sight. That is unless you’re an ant or a gopher and you’ve created your own mountain. While I’m busy in the house working through my mountains of paperwork, they are outside busy working on creating mountains out of the soil.
EverydayAdventures2017 – Mountains – was a challenge since we don’t live by any mountains. We do have some hills, but no mountains close by. But I did this challenge with a compromised approach nonetheless.
We do have a lot of mountains in our yard, created every day by ants and gophers.
For such small little beings, they sure do find lots of time to create mountains. Sometimes you can even see the ants while they work. You have to sit patiently though because as you walk up they pause and wait before coming back above the ground. They’ll eventually start-up again and move really fast to get their work done.
Imagine carrying big boulders all day long, then standing back to admire the mountain you’ve created. A huge accomplishment for the ants.
Or imagine you’re a gopher spending hours tunneling, digging and pushing up the dirt above as you create a mountain. Another successful mountain made by this gopher. I never actually see them doing the digging. But those darn mountains just keep appearing, slightly hidden in the grassy areas around the perimeter of our yard.
From a gopher level perspective, those are pretty big mountains.
Upon closer look, there was a feather that landed softly on top of this mountain.
A bird flying above the mountain had lost just one feather. It floated down to land right at the top of this mountain. Little mountains are pretty darn magical don’t you think?
