It appears about this time of year.
With a tease at first, as it gathers on the windows along with its rainy counterpart. Which outfit water or solid works best, singing the tune of, “Should I stay, or should I go?”
The snow’s first arrival gives us a fair warning, a tease, tease, tease, “It’s time to get the shovels out, cuz’ you know damn well that I’ll be back soon.”
Cuz’ let’s be clear about snow, once it starts to appear, we can count on the should I stay or should I go dance routine to eventually stick around – especially when the temperatures drop…and that my dear Midwesterner friends are what we call the songs of Autumn’s Goodbye.
Post inspiration – Linda Hill’s One-Liner Wednesday – An Autumn Goodbye
PS – Do you have your shovels ready? Do you have your long list of books to read on the treadmill? What do you think about winter?? Thanks for stopping by, hope you all have a Happy Wednesday!
Days are getting cold, keep your heart warm ❤️ hav a nice winter!
Thank you, great advice, thanks for sharing. Hope you have a nice winter, too! 🙂
Yea not looking forward to the snow but this has really been a nice fall. The leaves hung around longer than in the past few years and the colors seemed to be brighter…or it could be that now I am retired I can enjoy them better. Still don’t like snow but at least I don’t have to drive in it unless I want to go somewhere of my choosing. Have a great week.
I’m like you, I like the snow when I don’t have to drive in it! Hope you have a great week too!
I’m hoping we get in a few more fall days here in MD. It’s been so darn rainy! I’ll take snow over rain any day, but then, I don’t have to live with it much, so there’s the novelty factor. One of my guys got caught by the snowboarding bug last year, so I have a feeling I’ll be heading north at least a couple times this winter! Hope you have a nice fireplace to use when the mercury drops!
Sounds like you’re going to have a fun winter! Yes, we have a nice cozy fireplace to keep warm – that is a very nice part of colder weather!
I am happy to report: no shovels needed! Condo life means admiring the plowing/shoveling company working hard. While sipping tea and watching out the windows. 🙂
Well, aren’t you the lucky one!?! 🙂
Yes, I am totally grateful to be this lucky. I can still hardly believe it after so many years of shoveling.
Let. It. Be. Known. That. We. In. Toronto. Which. Is. In. Canada. Do. Not. Yet. Have. Snow.
Sure, there’s that town north of Toronto that had a sprinkling a few weeks ago but for the most part, my area is still free of the white stuff. In fact, we have a lot of golden leaves to rake up today…last night’s wind caused all kinds of colourful mess.
Ha!
But I tell you, the first snowfall, the first REAL snowfall, is always amazing. When the kids can’t wait to go play outside, when the world sparkles…right?
Ha – lucky girl! Ah, yes, kids outside running around in the first snow is a beautiful sight to see!
We don’t get snow here so I don’t know this feeling. Sometimes I think I miss out but then again, I’m not so sure I’d like to have to shovel snow!
The first snow isn’t too bad to shovel, it’s the over 12″ snows that aren’t my cup of tea!
Your photos are making me cold! 🙂 We’re supposed to get our first hard freeze Thursday or Friday. It’s been in the 70’s the past two days. I’m like: “Noooo! Don’t leave! I love you!” LOL!
Ah…70’s are long gone for us for several months. There was a February years ago that we did have a couple above 70 days, but it’s typically below freezing here now until May…………. 🙁
We don’t get snow in Sydney, but my lawn mowing season is usually longer than your snow shovelling season🤣🤣
Feel free to come back and check out my snow pictures as it piles up over the winter – so you don’t feel left out not having any snow! 😉
Do you need me to keep these coming?

Thanks, Shelley, I will. Maybe you should let me know if you need me to keep these coming during your winter😉 Cheers, Ken.

Ah, yes, I love water photos!
I know nothing about snow but love The Clash 🙂
Sand is a snowy white on the beaches right? 😉
Some……depends on geology. But snow in your swimmers would be so different to sand grinding away down there
We haven’t even had frost yet here in SE PA! Cooler weather is forecast for this weekend, though. I always cling to the last remnants of summer!
Me too! 🙂
Ha ha Shelley – we think alike. I wrote a post a few years ago about the Winter using that same line from that song. https://lindaschaubblog.net/2016/02/29/bonus-day/
I continue to feel cheated by all four seasons this year – a Winter that lingered way too long, a Spring that rained every weekend, not just a small garden shower, but seemingly endless torrential rain, a Summer of heat and humidity and rain again, and Fall … well an abysmal Fall consisting of rain, rain and more rain. Now snow on the horizon. I would like a do-over of 2018 weather!
I agree, 2018’s weather sure has been less than enjoyable! I love that you used that song too and that you thought February 29 should be a holiday and the dumbphone versus smartphone issue was a hoot. A great post, thank you for sharing!!
I probably date myself sometimes with the references Shelley, but people can and will Google (I look up everything I see and am not familiar with) (in fact, I have to check Urban Dictionary sometimes to ensure what I’m saying does not have a negative or otherwise connotation these days … sometimes it does) and I wonder how many people were scratching their heads over “Alvin and the Chipmunks” – perhaps I should have provided a link to their Christmas song?
LOL – I do the SAME things!
I think I belong to an earlier era Shelley … really I do. Not necessarily as far back as the “Little House on the Prairie” days but a simpler era for sure. 🙂
