I mustard confess

Confession #1 – I can’t believe I’m going to put this in writing, but the truth of the matter is, I admit to not knowing everything about everything (yellow).  Duh!

LOL! Right?  Oy…I hate it when I try to sound like a hip and happening teenager.

But, now that I’ve admitted to it (and other things), that gives me an advantage and provides me with way more opportunities to say, “What the heck, let’s go!”  Or, “You bet, I’d love to try that!”

After I ate pie for breakfast, our family unit took a short walk down the street, and right next to a huge water fountain, is the Mustard Museum.

Who would want to go to a mustard museum was my first thought – my kids of course, and the Mr.  He’s a mustard fan, too.  Check out that water fountain…a wishing well (coins indicate it so)…and I totally forgot to take a better picture of the fountain for today’s challenge…sigh…it must have been all the pie…

But now that I’m an empty nester with a sense of adventure, I joined the group and went inside.  Don’t believe me?  Here’s proof.

He’s a cute yellow guy you can stand next to and pose for photos.  I sure hope there wasn’t a creeper in there…  And, yep, there is yellow everywhere!

Confession #2 – I look a little reluctant in the photo don’t I?  That’s ‘cuz I’ve always been a loyal ketchup kind of gal.  I never wanted mustard to touch my buns (hotdog or burgers).  Over the years, I’ve gotten brave and have ventured into the world of yellow mustard condiments.  Once I found out that it is better for you than ketchup, and has fewer calories, I was self-convinced I should give it a try.

Mustard does taste great on Chicago Style Dogs, so, yeah, I guess I’m a converted “What the heck, I’ll give it a try” mustard kind of gal nowadays.  Plus if you’ve just eaten the pie like I had done, you don’t need more calories or sugar…or more yellow!

Holy crap – I had no idea there are so many variations of mustard available!  If you’ve ever wondered what an Exotic Ginger Curry Mustard tastes like, you can find out in the tasting room of the museum.  The staff is so friendly and helpful and ready to spoon up a sample for you or you can wander around and dip pretzels in samples (no double dipping please!).

After tasting, you can head down the stairs by the restrooms (if you need to…) and you’ll find a friend to sit and chat with while you wait…

Or head to a movie about the history of mustard…

Or just admire all of the collections of mustard and trinkets about mustard…

Way to go Wisconsin – apparently, we’ve got a whole lotta mustard variations created here!

Yep, the Mustard Museum is a fun and free tourist stop to visit in Middleton, WI.   I confess, I’m a fan and will keep on trying mustard on my buns!

#31SRW Photography Challenge:  Fountains/Water (rules here) and for fun, I’m giving Thursday Doors Prompt a try.

PS – Have you ever been to the Mustard Museum?  Are you a mustard or a ketchup or both kind of condiment fan?

  1. Since mustard is (virtually) no carb, I use it on my burgers and hot dogs. And Brats.

There are a few funky museums around here too … one is the Vacuum Museum near Uranus, MO!

    1. Yes, so true – no carbs!! Ooh…I’ll have to travel there to see it! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  2. I’m not much of a yellow mustard fan. The closest I get is with Dijon, which is more greeny-yellow than bright yellow.
That said, I discoverd a whole new variation of mustard while on my travels to Munich last month. Senf (the sweet variety) is a delicious mustard traditionally served with Weisswurst (a Bavarian white sausage). I loved it so much I bought some to bring home to the UK.
    The museum looks awesome!

    1. I prefer a mixture kind like Dijon, too. But, I’m getting more used to the yellow stuff. Your Munich mustard sounds delicious. Glad you found some you enjoyed enough to bring home! Yes, it is a fun museum to visit. They even have samples from the UK in there! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

  3. Q. Knock, knock….
    A. Who’s there?
    Q. Mustard
    A. Mustard who?
    Q. You mustard been a beautiful baby
You mustard been a wonderful child
When you were only starting to go to kindergarten
you mustard drove the little boys wild

And when it came to winning blue ribbons
You mustard shown the other kids how
I can see the judges’ eyes
as they handed you the prize
I bet you made the cutest bow
Oh you mustard been a beautiful baby
‘Cause baby look at you now

      1. Shelley, I wrote it myself when I was 16 years old and much sillier than I am today.
That Mustard Museum is a scream! I loved it. So creative and inventive.

        1. Aw, that’s awesome – talk about creative and inventive at 16!! WOW!! I love it, and…you may not think it, but I see the silly side in you and enjoy it! It was a fun museum, the staff looks like they enjoy working there too. They get lots of random visitors, too!

  4. A whole museum, dedicated to…mustard?! Hmm…what a curiosity and something that I would definitely check out. I never really liked mustard much until recent years and now I find that I am not really a ketchup fan after all!

    1. Yes, really a whole museum of it! I think maybe Aurora would even get a kick out of seeing it if she likes mustard!

  5. I am a Dijon mustard fan especially the seeded mustard. It is a treat to be in Dijon, see and taste the mustards……..and the taste is so oh la la 🙂
