How to stand out in a blogging crowd

Hi there!  Today, it’s your turn to pick my little ol’ blog out of a crowd of a bazillion others in the blogosphere.  You peeked around the corner and took a chance to stop by and see what I’m up to.  (Upper left-hand corner of the world).

Thank you, dears – I’m so thrilled you found me!

You and maybe a friend stopped by because of the unique title of my post, right?

Right?

I don’t blame you.

Is it easy?  Sure it is.

Is it a sure thing?

Nope.

But, trust me, the labor of love you put into your blog shall find it’s home in uniqueness.  So, don’t be shy.

    1. I’m waiting for that too…I dreamed about it last night. The neighbor had a huge bonfire last night, so I’m guessing no one visited, but tonight, might just be the night!

      1. well for crying out loud get a “GOOD” picture. all the others are fuzzy and out of focus and a good clear sharp picture is a money shot with the National Geographic,

        1. LOL! I may need to sit out there with a different camera. Unlike the animals, I’m not quite so nocturnal. Guess, my future isn’t so bright when it comes to NG…?

          1. just tell your H that you think that you have a poacher or a night time stalker and have him sit outside with a pot of coffee. you can get him a ghillie suit so he blends in better with nature, tell him you need a hero and he’s been volunteered.

          2. LOL – sounds like the perfect dinner convo starter for tonight. Over a venison something dish, I’m thinking?

  1. Shelley, you give the best blogging advice. It’s what initially drew me to your blog (I think you were doing a 30 day challenge and wrote about blogging each day). You certainly have mastered your own advice to be unique and have fun!

    1. Thank you, Laurie. Yes, I did that last year. It was fun to challenge myself to really figure out what I wanted to blog about. Apparently, I’m still in randomness, it fits for me. You’ve found your unique voice on your blog too. I always enjoy stopping by to see what you’re up to there!

  2. You’ve got plenty of deer around your home! Have you ever put a Mineral Lick out for them? No blogging advice here, it’s your site, use it as you want I guess! 😎

    1. Yes, we have plenty of deer. No, we haven’t done that. We don’t want to draw them here, we just let them come and go as they please. They get plenty of food in the soy beans or the corn field. 🙂

      1. I see. I had a bird feeder and a stump with salt lick or mineral lick just out the kitchen window in Michigan. The bird feeder was built by me and was Squirrel proof!

        1. My dad does that – he lives in Northern WI – and sees all sorts of animals on a daily basis. Squirrels, too. He hasn’t found a bear-proof bird feeder yet. Maybe the squirrels run and tell the bear…?!

  3. Oh my! That’s a party going on all-night-long! The bear would totally be outnumbered. Great photos though. As far as blogging tips go, I’m still figuring it out although it is a great place to…”write whatever you want to.” There’s my one line tip. Nobody is giving out grades! :). I will admit that can be easier said than done.

    1. Now that you point it out, maybe that’s why the bear hasn’t returned yet?! Your tip is a great one and definitely helps you find your own voice in the process. PS If/when you figure this all out, do tell…we all wanna know! 🙂

  4. Hi Shelley! I have no advice, I’m here to learn from everyone. Hopefully someday I’ll have this figured out. I’m also figuring out how to use a blog for marketing my business, a completely different animal (pun intended). Thanks for sharing your hard-earned lessons. Cheers!

    1. Hi Barbara – congrats on admitting you’re still learning – I think that opens you up to even greater success as you carry on with the journey. Cheers to you, too – good luck on the new added feature for your blog!

  5. When I began blogging (three years ago) I diligently tried to follow all of the “blogging rules” that I read from others, This past year, I have slowly let these rules fall away and blog in a style that comes more natural to me. I am very happy with this change.

    1. Yay – that’s excellent advice. I’m so happy it is working for you – plus you’re letting your uniqueness shine. I hope you’re like me, in that I find doing so makes it way more fun, too. Happy Blogging to you!!

  6. Wow, you have a lot of activity going on there. We have raccoons that visit and sometimes I hear quite a commotion between them and the wandering cats. Once I opened the back door to find two of them doing some hanky panky right on the porch! No blogging advice from me either. Seems like you are doing fine though!

    1. Oh, my, that would be a site to see! Thank you, for sharing – I appreciate connecting with you here on this journey of blogging!

  7. Given that the alternative might be something called “normal” I think I’ll stick with trying to be unique. Nice post, Shelley.

  8. Your posts are always unique Shelley. Like snowflakes and fingerprints, no two are alike. Mine are often similar, and I started out just writing about walking, not really nature, but it has turned into a niche about nature along the way. I have told you before that I did posts for 4 1/2 years before the blogging traffic picked up. Someone followed me and I asked myself why as they weren’t a walker? Truly, I was just writing for the fun of it, not tagging, not following others, only subscribers following me … perhaps I did not understand the blogosphere concept, even though I interacted with my Patch blogging group, yet not here. I was busy writing my little heart out. 🙂 I guess the best advice for a new blogger would be to write from the heart and write what really happened, whether you’re recalling memories form years ago, or recounting that day’s activity. Don’t embellish and try to keep the readers engaged in your story. Wow, lots of activity from the trail cam overnight happily no bears. I now understand the “deer-in-the-headlight look”!!

    1. Aw, thank you for the compliments, Linda. I appreciate it. Your advice rings true in your blog posts and adventures. And your wit stands out, which is what brings me back to read time and time again. LOL – yes, that’s the look they get – so FUNNY that you pointed it out!! Happy Blogging to you!!!

      1. Thank you Shelley – you swell my head sometimes! I have to ensure I am witty and whimsical sometimes or I will have to drop that part off the blog name.

    1. Thank you. You’re right, no bear again yet. We’re going to check the camera again in a couple of days. Maybe it was a one time visit?!
