How to leave the day on a wise note

How could I have wasted the longest day of the year by being tired?  The first day of summer has come and gone.  And I went to bed at 7 pm.

Say, what?!  Shocking, I know.

I should be ashamed.

Just zip your lips…

And hear me out…

All I’ve got to show for the week leading up to the first day of summer is an extra pound of fluff on my belly.  And fatigue, so I went to bed early.

Or is that cleavage?

Made you look twice, didn’t I?

I digress…I’m too shy to share any kind of my own cleavage.  But…butts…now we’re talking.

No matter how you look at it, it isn’t appropriate to share cleavage or butts on social media unless you’re Kardashian or Madonna.  But the baby Robin, who left the nest does have some cuteness to share, I didn’t know they have cleavage, did you?

This silly nonsense leaves me to believe I shall hop off, leave these here parts, and get busy.  Leaving some of my fluff behind while I’m at it.

I’ll leave you with some tiny sparkles that have burst through the leaves on the buds of my spirea bushes.  They’re so tiny and sweet.

I’ll be out in my yard spending time in the most fortunate change in weather.  It’s supposed to be a sunny day and 80 degrees.  That wasn’t planned per the weather forecast.  Finally, they get it wrong, and I’m damn happy about it.

It’s going to help the leaves on the soybeans grow.

And I can’t wait to catch up on garden work while I soak up all the sun I can today.  An extra dose of Vitamin D will cheer me that’s for sure!

The irises are done and falling to the sides…but the Tiger Lilies will be blooming soon…the sun will help!

PS – Did you soak up every last minute of daylight on the longest day of the year?  Do you have fun plans for the first weekend of summer? Enjoy your weekend!

  1. I’m hoping for weather that’s favorable for a photo walk on this first weekend of summer, but there’s rain in the forecast (again).

  2. You must have been really tired, Shelley. I only go to bed that early when I’m sick. Hope you got a good night’s rest and ready to enjoy blue skies and warmer temps. We deserve this day!

    1. I was so tired. Thankfully, I slept well and am raring to go to enjoy the nice day! Hope you have a great weekend too! Ditto to you! 🙂

  3. I hope you’re enjoying the weekend, Shelley. I love the pictures and your model really knows how to work the goods.

    1. Thank you, Dan, I hope you’re enjoying your weekend too. LOL – yes, Ms. Robin was quite the model. I’m now incredibly intrigued by your post today, so I’ve got to look back and see if I’ve been spammed too. It happens, and is so annoying! Cheers to your analytical skills :-)!

    1. Yay – I gotcha thinking! Mary is wise to go to bed early. If she’s like me then she can rise with the sun in the morning! 🙂

      1. If she goes to bed early, she tends to get up well before sunrise, read and watch YouTube until she’s tired enough to go back to sleep. I read somewhere that people would sleep about half the night, wake up and stay up for an hour or so, then go back to bed, so she’s right in line with that.

        1. Yeah, that is a problem with early bedtime. The middle of the night wake up session! It’s nice that Mary can go back to sleep. I’ve read that as well – maybe Mary and I are ‘normal’ afterall!

  4. Our bodies tell us “Its time for rest” so we must adhere to it. Who cares. As early as you get up anyway is enough to make me go to bed at 7. Enjoy you sun today. Hoping to do the same myself.

    1. Yes, they do – I’ve adore my sleep! Dang…I’m busted, Anita, I go to bed that early often ;-)! Hope you get sun this weekend too!! Enjoy!

  5. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do! Sleep is one of those things 🙂
The first day of summer here was rain, rain and more rain. Today is better.
    Great photos as always!

    1. Yes, we do! Aw…rain…rain…and more rain is getting old. Glad today’s forecast is better. Enjoy every second of it. Thank you, glad you enjoyed the photos!

    1. Thank you, Erica! If you’re an early bird for yoga (congrats on the guest writer post you did!!) you’re like me, early to bed so I can get up and enjoy morning stretches. I’m just a baby when it comes to yoga moves, though…some day I tell myself!

  6. That fluffy little robin with its different faces and movements were captured perfectly by you Shelly … it matched your words to a “T” … I did not know robins had cleavage. The weather here was gorgeous, though I only enjoyed Part 2 of the weekend as you know. Today, the weatherman got it all wrong thus far … supposed to be a rainy and stormy day and everyone worried as our big Windsor/Detroit fireworks show is tonight. They did not call it off and the rain and storms are to roll in at 8:00 tonight … fireworks begin at 9:55 … too late to cancel, but as my mom used to say when I complained about the weatherman getting it wrong: “Linda, the weatherman is not God!”

    1. Thank you, Linda – I do think of you and your quick wit when I attempt to connect my photos to words. You’re an inspiration to my nature photos.
Dang weather – we had rain all day Sunday when we were supposed to have a large event when people float down the river. Thunderstorms and cool weather caused it to be cancelled.
Your mom was wise – we can’t predict, we can only react to the weather right before us at that moment. Grab the sunshine and nice weather while it’s here!

      1. Well when I did that post about the garage door the other day, I was inspired by your posts when I created it. I actually just took those pics with the small camera on Friday morning. The only one I thought would come out was the goldfinch – I had three goldfinch duds.
I took the pics in my yard not for a blog post, but to show my friend how bad the yard looked like – she told me to go out both Saturday and Sunday and forget the house. I wanted to show her why I had to work in the yard – it looked like a jungle then (looks good now and hung up the wreath) … the only pic from before was the dove in the gutter from the week before. I have enough for four posts and should have tried to put something together tonight but I stayed late as I shut down for an hour to go out with the door installer and to eat something, came back and finished up the charts. The handyman comes all day Friday to do his Spring chores and the power washing and mildew spray – that’s good because the trim is getting dirty and the new garage door is a bright white. They say rain on Friday – doesn’t make me happy if he’s up on the roof and it’s raining. And Saturday will rain. It is our Classic Cruisin’ event. I went last year as I had just gotten the big camera and took some pics, none were really great though to be honest. So like your event, this rain will mess up the event, but they won’t cancel it and it’ll be 90 degrees which will cause the engines to overheat. Also, in the rain, many of the classic cars will not join in as they are convertibles or vintage cars where the roll the car top down (think Model A cars).

        1. Aw, I’m glad you’ve found inspiration, I appreciate hearing that. Your post was fun to read, and created a desire to be empathetic toward what you were going through!
This weather is so bizzare this year. Not far from where I live is the famous Country Fest Grounds – this is their week – they are going to be wet, hot, and messy campers out there enjoying the music. I bet they will also be feeding grounds for the mosquitos who have also enjoyed the crazy weather. Yikes – not me, I’ll be home avoiding the crowds! 😉 I can see how that weather would deter classic/vintage car owners. I hope the weather cooperates for them…and you!

          1. That’s a shame for your Country Fest – and yes, the mosquitoes will be wicked from all the rain. That’s not for me either – I got eaten alive the day of the last 5K as we were in the deep woods about 10 minutes but when we came it out it was just as bad.
Yes, the classic car owners won’t bring their “babies” out in the extreme heat as the vintage engines overheat quickly and there is no real ventilation in the car either.
And they won’t if it rains and we are supposed to have a rainy Saturday. They often start cruising Thursday night and a lot of Friday – rain and storms for Thursday evening as well as Friday as well. I do hope it improves soon – I feel like now we are making the crawl back to Winter with Spring not very memorable and Summer iffy.

          2. Unlike the car owners, the Country Festers go on rain or shine, dry ground or mud, and party hard. They plan for it a year in advance, and so they don’t let anything keep them from enjoying the event.
I don’t disagree with you on the weather – it has been strange. I almost complained about the heat yesterday…but then I found some shade instead, and enjoyed the warm breeze.

          3. We used to have the Country Hoedown in the Downtown Business District for years and when I still worked downtown before Robb/I moved out on our own. They were there three days and on the Saturday night they were pretty rowdy shooting beer bottles in the parking garage. They moved out to an open-air music theatre this year – I think they did better downtown though. We are getting 91 tomorrow – wish he was not going up on the roof in 91-degree heat but he says it doesn’t matter to him. I walked home from the dentist today – 80 at 10:00 a.m. and it was hot and sticky. I also wanted to complain and then remembered the past Winter and Spring.

          4. I’m right there with you on not wanting to complain about the heat…sweating the whole way back to the A/C! July will be better, right?! 😉
