How I became a water whisperer

It has been dry here in Wisconsin.  The grass has gone dormant and the cornfield is curling up into itself.  Everything seems to be craving water.  With the drought, it is a possibility that I have become a water whisperer.

Okay, maybe just a self-proclaimed one, but I’m thinking it is so.

Thankfully, my flowers have survived due to my daily watering sessions.  We were finally expecting rain two days ago – it was supposed to be a downpour.  I panicked and went outside to rescue a bouquet of flowers.  You know, just in case they were all damaged and no longer there for me to enjoy or water.

I needed to treasure the glorious moment.  So I brought the bouquet inside my office, set it by the window to admire.

And the sun came out again.  The rainstorm clouds began to clear and nothing…not a drop of rain…

But the sun sparkled in my vase, and I smiled.

Look at all the different colors and flowers and the Black-eyed Susan with its unique pattern.  I’m so fricken happy…I did it!  I set out to grow flowers for a bouquet, and I did it…wallah…

I glanced past the bouquet to the yard at our old, repurposed, birdbath.  It is a sad-looking thing, but still attracts birds.

It still had water in it and was attracting a variety of birds all at once, not just the crows.  No rain for them either.  How sad.  They need water too.

They’re lucky to have me helping them out.

The birds have become fond of my assistance.  I fill their bird baths daily with fresh water.  It is a beautiful thing, isn’t it?  As I fill the bird baths I love to watch the water swirl and bubble and glisten in the sunlight.

When I’m done, I bend down and hold my hand out to run the water over it so that Copper can get a drink of water, too.  He loves to follow me around the yard as I water the plants and the birds.  Mr. thinks that is why I have to put my hand on his bowl in the house so that he’ll drink from it.

Oh, dear…maybe I should call myself the water whisperer…?  Wherever I go, I water something.

For the pets, in our house, I fill 4 bowls of water, 2 sinks, and my water-glass on a daily basis.

One should never leave a glass or sink unattended in our house.  Tizzie is bibulous, but not for alcohol, for water, it is her potion.

Not a counter, chair, table, or person can get in her way when she’s on the hunt for water.

It’s best to just placate her while she does her thing, then she’ll go take a nap in the sun and sleep off her bingeing session.

Yes, I’m a water whisperer, yes, I am…

PS – Do you have pets who are obsessed with weird ways to get their water?  Do you enjoy watching the birds while they splash in the bird bath?  Are you a water whisperer too?

  1. My kitty Maggie Mae drinks out of the toilet tank — yes, I have no top on the toilet tank. And if I leave the seat up, Georgie Clooney will drink out of the toilet bowl. UGH. As if I don’t put out two BOWLS of water …

  2. Bitter sweet week for me. Let my 16 year old kitty go last week. Then today we adopted 2 new ones that come home next week.

    1. Aw, saying goodbye to our furry friends is so hard. I bet the new kitties will be a joy to watch grow and learn from your experience with your older kitty. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
