For any former craft-maker, hand-sewer or kit-maker, when you get the chance to tap into your creative juices and create something on a whim, isn’t it thrilling…a bit awkward…but oh, so worth it, in the end, to spend time creating?
No matter how goofy the project turns out looking, when you’re done with it, you can’t help but smile.
For EverydayAdventures2017- Gather your tools, I decided to grab random things I’ve been holding, (you know…just in case) combine them together and make something out of the mismatched parts.
Making something small is less intimidating when you’re trying to get back into the swing of crafting.
A cool challenge for a creative mind is to use an idea you’ve dreamed up, but have no pattern, and you just wing it from the picture in your head.
What tools did I gather for this wing-it project?
- gray throw pillow (with fiber filling)
- discarded jeans with torn out knees
- a piece of felt
- sewing scissors
- thread
- needle
- faux leather fringe
- and, after I got going…I discovered a seam ripper was important as well!
When I looked at the gray-faux-suede-like fabric, the first thing I thought of was, this would be cool toy mouse material. See it, sew it, make it come alive…
I am smitten with kitten toys that entertain our older cats. Cat toys made from gathered tools, tossed out on the floor for our cats to investigate, and they play with them are the best projects.
Cats need exercise don’t ya know…so a toss of this will get them moving, won’t it? The prototype little mouse, as rough as he looks, when tossed out on the floor for Dessy, she became intrigued. Yay!
The thrill of seeing our cats play with what I’ve created revives a part of me I’ve missed in a way since I stopped doing crafts quite some time ago. Hmm…
Watching cats running around, with gusto for a goofy little mouse, is whimsical. Seeing cats play is just as enjoyable as creating the toy mouse in the first place.
A strategic placement of it at the top of the stairs even drew Dessy in to play some more.
She stopped to stare at it, or make eye contact with the little mouse before she batted him around.
Tizzie ran around so fast with it, I couldn’t catch her on film. A successful EverydayAdventures2017- Gather your tools! PS – I made a pattern from the first one, tried sewing another mouse together and it turned out fat and not quite like the prototype. But Dessy is chubby, so she might just like it………
