Clouds at play

It is so easy to take for granted the common things.  An easily dismissed moment can become something intriguing and even more beautiful when we pause to notice it.

Clouds playing in the sky are moments like that for me.

I’m in awe of clouds, always have been.  In particular, I love the fluffy white ones against a bright blue sky…bouncing over a cornfield in early summer.

My all-time favorite time of the day is early morning.  The sunrise quickly becomes the boss of my day if I let it.

It is easy for me to sit and watch clouds dance with the sunrise.

I just let time float away as they move across the sky.

I notice them out of the corner of my eye while I glance at the grass.  The sunlight kisses it through the dewdrops.

I fill the birdbath with water.  I listen to the birds as they sit on the wires, singing their songs to serenade the arrival of morning.

Ah…the simple beauty of these moments.

I watch the cloud reflections in the water of the birdbath, and, I think to myself, “Birds are so lucky to have such a beautiful view from their bathtub!”

Even in black and white, clouds are beautiful!

From sun up to sun down, I and the clouds find time to play.  Who wouldn’t want it that way?

PS – Do you enjoy watching the clouds?  What is your favorite time of the day?  When is the last time you lost time watching the clouds?

Post Inspiration from #31SRW – 31-Day Photography Challenge – Clouds (Rules found here).  Post thoughts from me: This cloud one was tougher than I thought it would be.  Finding a way to capture a cloud silhouette in a reflection from my yard was a challenge!

  1. I like the black-and-white picture the best. You can see the texture. Very nice pictures, all of them!

I was interested in weather as a kid, and still am as an adult, so I’m an inveterate cloud watcher. We get a real good view of clouds when we’re out in the car, and we have skylights in the living room and are always looking up to see if we have any rain coming in.

    1. Thank you, John, I appreciate the feedback! You’re right on the b&w versions! Thank you for sharing your cloud watching thoughts, too. I bet that is fun to watch out the skylights. We had one in our bathroom and covered it up when we put on a new roof. I still miss it, it was nice to see the weather like you said! Happy cloud watching to you!

  2. I do enjoy watching clouds but can’t recall the last time I watched so intently that I lost time. My favorite time of day is whatever time I walk in the door to home & family after work.

    1. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Denny. Next vacation…without visiting distant family…maybe you can spend some time cloud watching! Yes, coming home after work to the family is a great time of day, too!! You’re such a great family man, they’re lucky to have you in their lives.

      1. Thank you, Shelley. I try to be a good husband and dad, but truly, I’m the lucky one! My other favorite time of day is tied to environmental as well as geographic conditions. Sitting or walking in the country during the early morning and breathing in the clean, vibrant air had always been my favorite until I had my own family and will always be a strong second.

        1. Ah…that is a beautiful time of day, too! I’m sure your moments in the clean, vibrant air add to your gifts of being a great husband and dad! Recharging moments like that are exactly what we all need!

  3. Lovely pictures. How clever with the slideshows too! I didn’t do yesterday because I didn’t eat any interesting food and haven’t gone grocery shopping and today might be a challenge as well since right now there are no clouds in the sky, only haze from fires burning. I’ll keep an eye out for the clouds when I go to the store later.

    1. Thank you! Don’t worry about trying to top Mr.’s cooking – I gave up on that a long time ago! If I was you, I’d stack a tower of cans from the cupboard in front of the bathroom mirror, make a funny face and send me the picture :-)! Happy Shopping – (PS sorry to hear about the haze from fires, that’s not a nice cloud cover!!)

  4. Nice photos, Shelley! I see you’re playing with the macro setting! I love interesting cloud formations, especially at sunrise and sunset when there are shades of pink and red woven in between. It’s something to behold in person as a camera doesn’t always do the beautiful sky justice.

    1. Thank you, Mary! Yes, playing with the camera settings and I agree – there is something to behold – the sky is something we always try to capture, but can’t quite do so…but we never stop trying either! xx Happy 4th to you!

    1. Awesome cloud shots you shared! I love all the different variations and that you even found some pants in the sky! 🙂
