Ta-da, it is done! Our gliding bench is complete and ready for us to sit on and enjoy our newly remodeled area.
Me: “Let’s go outside and catch up.”
Sarah Mae: “Sure, let’s sit on the bench! So what are you calling the area nowadays?”
Me: “The patio, dear, the front patio.”
Sarah Mae: “Love the accent you got going on with that. Yes, dear, let’s go give it a try.”
Me: “Yes, I’m sure Dad will give us some wine and I might just get him to take a picture of us too…!”
Sarah Mae: “Of, course, he will.”
Us: “Cheers to the Man who made it all happen!”
Sarah Mae: “So…how did it all happen (I made this comment up…it fits the story well…)”
First, we dug it out of storage from under the deck.
Then we tried it out for looks and size on the front patio. And chose the new colors.
Then he took it all apart. (Notice…I’m out of the story for a bit, except for being the historian.)
Then he sanded every board.
Then he primed every board.
Then he painted every board.
Then he painted every board again.
In the meantime he ordered screws and acorn nuts (from China)…and then we waited.
Until he measured again and found we could get most from Menard’s and then he began the assembly process.
Then he put every board back in place with shiny new bolts!
Then we admired it.
Each chair glides individually, and he even made a nice holder for our wine glasses.
Ta-da. Isn’t it colorful? Here’s our cute little empty nest family (minus the cats).
Previous photo thanks to Sarah Mae who came to see and sit on the real live bench located on our front patio. With complimentary chalk on her knees…come back tomorrow for that story…!
The bench makes this patio the perfect spot for tea in the morning. Or after a golf tee session in the afternoon, that is if we were golfers. Since we’re not, it is a perfect spot for a glass of wine and stories of how it came to be.
My Mr., aka, the perfect man with tools to makes things happen!
#31SRW Photography Challenge Day 28 Chair (see rules here). Cee’s Black & White Challenge: Benches. Linda’ Hill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday – T, tea, tee.
PS – Tell me about your favorite spot to sit and chat with your empty nest partner, or adulting children who come back to visit! Or tell me about a project that you’re proud of completing! Cheers!
That is creative and awesome!
Thank you, Claudette! 🙂
I love this story (and that beautiful bench!).
Aw, thank you!!
Beautiful! I like seeing the before and after pics and the process in between. We like to hang out on our covered deck out back which is about to be taken down cause it’s old. You’ve got me thinking about what to replace it with.
Thank you! We were inspired to go with fun colors – reminds us of the beach as well as both of our daughters – the love fun colors! Good luck with your project!
Thanks!
love, love, love the colors!
Happy sitting! and enjoying!

Thank you, Cindi! Your bedroom looks beautiful! I love the before and after shots and that you’ve been able to find what you love within your budget! PS – I was into roses in our bedroom, too, 17 years ago! Another thing we have in common! LOL!
