Nature will bear the closest inspection. She invites us to lay our eye level with her smallest leaf, and take an insect view of its plain. – Henry David Thoreau
A random Sunflower plant is growing in my rocks – must’ve been a mouse or a vole that planted it there? I love the tiny triangles it forms as it holds tight to the center until it is ready to open up.
I’m amazed that the Mourning Dove in the middle looked like he almost posed for me. I wonder if he can see me taking a photo of them while they chat about the bugs they see from their view above?
Love has its own instinct, finding the way to the heart, as the feeblest insect finds the way to its flower, with a will which nothing can dismay nor turn aside. – Honore de Balzac
The Blackeyed Susan’s are opening and attracting ants and small bees. This one was bug-free – just look at the details of the flower’s cone.
So much work goes into creating such beauty that the little bugs adore.
What about the sturdy stalks? Do they do something special too? Who stops to look at them when the flower takes up so much attractive viewing space?
I wonder if the stems create little ladders for the bugs to climb upon?
Ah, with the right light, it’s easier to see, the beauty of thee…
Pretty cool, eh?
Maybe some ants like a less ladder effect? They like a smooth ladder to climb. They sure do like the Zinnias to trek a trail up and down.
The Blackeyed Susan’s stalk is fascinating to me.
At a bug’s level, even a tiny inch-worm is making its way to see what’s happening up there, or maybe it is sky-diving?!
Bugs galore, and a whole different world to adore.
Post Inspiration – Sunday Stills – Triangles and Becky B’s #JulySquares and #Blue
PS – Happy Sunday – hope you take the time to notice the little bugs and tiny details in your world. What did you see today?
I am always amazed at the fact that the tiny ants have made it so far up into a blossom or onto a leaf. Meanwhile, I complain about driving to the store 🙁
LOL – that’s a great perspective Dan!
We have ants in the house. Yesterday there were maggots in the compost bin. There are aphids or something on my Gerberas. Ick to all of it.
Except ladybugs and butterflies. They get a pass. 😉
Ewe – we have been invaded by ants this year too. The Flicker birds can’t even keep up with them. Yuck on the maggots – and flies they grow. I’m waiting for the butterflies to notice the Blackeyed-Susans. They get a pass in my yard too!
Shelley, you had the same idea with the triangular sunflower petals as me, great minds and all that! Stunning photography!
Yes – as soon as I saw them, I knew I could join your prompt for the day. I love the B&W version you shared!
Seems counterintuitive to have a black and white sunflower, but it’s fun! I’m also glad you are using the #monthofsunflowers hashtag 🌻
Yes, but the details are perfect for both color and B&W. Yes, I’m having fun with that hashtag!! Thanks for inviting me to join in.
Hi Shelley, I love your title and the photos are stunning. I have recently discovered how blogger’s beautiful photos have become my mini meditation. Thank you for the zen:) Erica

Those are the kind of pictures I’m going to try to take for the August Break prompts. So cool!
Yay! Thank you for the compliments – I can’t wait to see what you capture for the August Break prompts. 🙂
Wow! The detail you capture is just amazing. Bugs are my least favorite part of nature. Actually my least favorite part of most anything. Except ladybugs and butterflies (same as Claudette above!).
Thank you! Early evening lighting is just as fun as early morning. I don’t like bugs either, but they were there, so I took advantage of their efforts to bug me. You and Claudette have excellent tastes! 😉
You’re welcome 🙂
These are amazing shots and beautiful flowers, Shelley. I love the stalk of the black-eyed susan. So cool! Hope your weekend has been wonderful and you are staying cool. 🙂
Thank you, Mary, glad you enjoyed them. I love that you liked the same photo I did – a simple twist to the ‘traditional’ flower photos always draws me in. Hope you had a great vacation. It’s hot here, so the A/C is very welcome while I slave away at cleaning I haven’t done in way too long. Happy Sunday – enjoy the rest of your vacation. 🙂
Love the flower and stem details. Your photography is amazing!
Thank you, Donna, I appreciate your feedback!
