All-time Favorites are yet to be discovered

If pressed to ask what is my all-time favorite photo, I’d struggle.  The list is long, and Mr. would tell you my photo folders on our server keeps stretching the limits…or as he says often, “We’re gonna need a bigger server!”

I, of course, love all of our family photos, and our trips together.  But those are more personal and difficult to quantify the level of favorites – even crappy shots are favorites of mine because it means we were together having fun.  Photos of our pets are much the same for me.  Man…I guess I do take a lot of photos.

So what if I have thousands or more photos on our server that I say are favorites and don’t want to part with them?  That simply tells me I’m enjoying my hobby and continuing to learn as I go.  Those two aspects are all I need to keep me taking chances with my camera to discover everyday moments.

The colors of the sky on a rainy day and the dew drops left rank right up there for me as a favorite time to grab my camera.  Yesterday, was one of those days.  The rain stopped just long enough for me to grab my camera and check out my gardens.

Seedlings are sprouting.

Bearded Irises are blooming.  It’s fun to zoom in from different angles.  Straight on is too easy of a shot.

Tiger Lilies are layering their way up the stalks.

Hostas are unfurling from their delicate folds.

June Bugs are landing in unfortunate spots.

Bees of all shapes and sizes are pollinating flowers.  The easy shot is just to frame it in the middle.

But if the subject sticks around, busy doing its own thing, it’s more fun for me to play and try new angles with my camera.

Like capturing what’s behind the subject.

Or what’s next to the subject.  See the other tiny bee to the right?

Or blurring everything but the subject.

And then finally getting one or two shots with the subject clear, containing enough blur surrounding it, add some fun leading lines, and of course, the contrasting pop of color.

For me, now that I look at this, the final weekly photo challenge, retrospectively…my all-time favorite photos are ones I’ve yet to take because that means I’ll be enjoying another quest to learn more about what I can and can’t capture with my camera.  How about you?  What are your favorite photos?

PS – I’m saddened to know the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is ending with this challenge and that the Daily Prompts done as well.  I’ve so enjoyed seeing all the weekly shots and joining in on the daily challenges.  I want to say thank you for the opportunity to those who kept it going.  Their final shots and words of encouragement are inspiring.  I hope the bloggers who I’ve found friendships with through the daily and weekly challenges stick around and continue sharing their photos and stories.  I’m grateful for all the inspiration I’ve found getting to know you through the WordPress Challenges.

PSS – if you’d like me to join in on another challenge you’re joining…share the link or a comment on this post!  I’m up for joining you!!

  1. Your take on these challenges is inspiring!! It gives me a new way of thinking about topics, ex. the post about lines.
I was shaking my head in agreement when you said family photos are one of your favorites, even the bad ones. Too many favorites for me in that category!
Thank you for sharing your lovely pictures and identifying the names of them for clueless people like me. Keep taking those pictures because you never know when you’ll get that perfect shot.

    1. Aw, thank you, your feedback inspires me to keep trying! I enjoy seeing the shots you take and adventures you have with your kids. Tugs a bit at my heart to think back to when my kids were young like yours and the fun you get to have with yours at this time in your life. Take TONS of pictures of them, you won’t regret it! (But you already know that!!) Thanks again for stopping by, it’s always nice to hear from you!

    1. Thank you. Now that you mention that, I can see what you’re saying! Thanks for the smile this morning! 🙂
