A winter battle of the lion and the lamb

Of course, the weatherman was finally right.  The clouds darkened as evening approached.  It was the calm before the blizzard.

When we woke, we couldn’t see out the windows.  Well…sh*t…that’s not a good thing?!

I climbed on a chair so I could get a peek.

Maybe out the patio door off the deck, it would be better? Um…nope.

How about Copper’s level?   Not that window either…

Copper’s space sure shrunk overnight.

Dang, ice upon ice upon more ice formed in our entryway.

And then we had coffee and waited for some melting of the moods to happen, and then discovered a water spot.  Nice, NOT!  Yes, the house was built in the late 80s and popcorn ceilings were IN at the time, and we had one other leaky roof episode expertly covered up with a new roof in 2016.  Crap…water coming in is not a good thing.

A masked man (Mr.) begrudgingly headed out to scrap some of the snow off the valley on the roof.  The ice wasn’t having anything to do with coming down though, it was damn happy to stick right where it was.  But Mr. was able to successfully add to the pile of snow blocking the doorway.

We were finally able to see out the windows as the wind picked up and blew ice off of them.

Crazy ice formations continued to form in the entryway.

And the wind, Yikes! Ol’ man winter can perform magic.

Did you see what I saw?  By the side of the Tea House?  It wasn’t rabbits.

IMG_1138csskrupa3

It wasn’t a couple of dogs either, but they’d be cute trying to leap through the snow.  Don’t ya think?

It was the damn lion and the flaky lamb duking it out to see who’s gonna win to the end to the race of this blasted obnoxious February.

They made a mess of the yard while the wind blew all day, and into the night.

Dueling drifts battled it out on the other side of the yard to see who could throw the most snow over the fence.

Mr. tried to blow the snow, made one pass out, and one back came back inside and said, “Tomorrow will be soon enough, the wind blows it back in as fast as the snow blower blows it out.”

So we just sat and watched the wind blow and make drifts…all day long.  I ate Tostitos too.

The wind was still blowing while the sun warmed the sky.  We don’t want warm weather yet, we want all of this snow to melt slowly…

We had tea with brandy before bed.

And this morning, I looked out the front door to see a lovely pink glow.  And all I’m thinking now is ‘red in the morning, sailors take warning…’

IMG_1234csskrupa3

It’s pretty, though, isn’t it?

I think Mr. maybe should’ve built an ark instead of a TeaHouse…

It won’t be melting yet, it’s 6 below and windy still.   Sigh…

Post Inspiration – Lens Artists #34 – Close Up

PS – Happy shoveling our way out Monday!  Which photos are your favorites?  Isn’t snow drifting amazing?  I wouldn’t want to be out in it, though.  We’ve had record snowfall this year.   How about you?

    1. I remember 1978 snow storm! It’s been a long time since we’ve had this much snow on the ground at the same time. It’s brandy drinking worthy, that’s for sure.

  1. With those drifts, if Copper could get out there it’s home free over the fence. Of course, then what?

I hope this storm loses significant power before it ends up in our yard later this week.

Great pictures – I like the creative ones!

    1. If he was brave, he’d try. But he prefers the comfort and warmth of the inside of the house! If it was frozen solid, we’d have other critters entering in the yard. There has been little signs of wildlife with this storm. I hope it loses power by the time it gets to you too! Thanks, my mouse drawing skills are challenged by those projects!

        1. It died down enough for clearing, just in time for more to arrive tonight and tomorrow and maybe Friday…sigh… Mr. said at least he’s getting his workouts in. He’s also plowing for his parents when it snows this much, so he spends about 3-4 hours snowing. That’s a workout compared to my 30 minutes on the treadmill!

          1. Aw, that’s so sweet of you! Thank you for helping the neighbor out! You’re right, it’s a good workout. I try to help, but the idea of trying to maneuver a snow blower scares the heck out of me!

          2. My wife tried to use the machine, but she’s too small. She has a small electric model, good for 4-8″ which she uses when I’m on the road. And, we have a guy who will come and clear everything (except a path for the pup) when we get more than 4-8″

          3. Aw – a team effort! Don’t tell Mr. I don’t want one of my own. 😉 So nice you have help when you get that much snow. Some year, we’ll need to do that too.

  2. I hope the roofer has a warranty available for you. The drifts are so amazing! Enjoy your Tostitos. ❤️😎

  3. Not many scarier things to a homeowner than dark spots forming on the ceiling, knowing there is water coming from somewhere. We had popcorn ceilings in our house too. So hard to patch them. That’s a ridiculous amount of snow. Gonna have to tunnel out of that. It IS beautiful though – you have some really nice photos!

    1. We’ve been cursed with water since we started to build – it just goes with homeownership. The great news is 3 out of the next 5 days we’re supposed to get more snow! That lion better watch his back.

  4. So beautiful! We could have some of that snow – had too little this winter. I love your narration and could almost feel the blizzard in my bones…My favorites are the lion and the lamb and the opening photo with icicles.

    1. Thank you, Ann-Christine, I’m glad you enjoyed the view of the snow. I appreciate your feedback and being able to participate in your fun challenge for the week. Your close-ups were inspiring to me!

  5. We’ve not had that much snow – we got 62 inches the Winter of 2017-2018 … that was big stuff for us. We’ve seen more ice than snow this Winter. You have had enough for two years!

      1. Our weatherman said not to expect Spring-like weather at least til after the middle of March, if not the calendar date for Spring. We’re getting a few inches of snow tonight – nothing like your snow totals though.

        1. Yeah, our guy said the same thing last night. Do they all have a club or something where they get all their ‘one liners’ from?! Yep more snow!

    1. If you can extend it, why wouldn’t you? It certainly doesn’t hurt your gifted writing ;-)! The snow is beautiful…feel free to grab a photo and write about a winter goddess in a snow suit!? LOL! Stay warm 🙂

  6. This is more of a test comment than an actual comment. I’ve been trying for days to leave a comment on your blog but the system won’t take me. Just seeing if this non-comment, by chance, goes through.

      1. I get nothing. I hit “Post Comment” and then my comment disappears and nothing happens. Just a white screen, like the snow in you backyard. It’s weird.

          1. All I know is that from time-to-time this happens on certain blogs. People sometimes tell me it happens to them on my blog, too. Usually as unexpectedly as it happens, everything goes back to normal, but I don’t know why. It’s a mystery wrapped in a conundrum. 🤷‍♀️
