    1. Thanks so much, I bookmarked your link. Great ideas…I miss the WordPress Daily Post.

      1. Thank you, I appreciate the bookmark – I miss the WordPress Daily Prompt for the simple fact that it brought so many bloggers together to share all their different perspectives on one word! I wish you well in your blogging journey!

  1. I have yet to find a niche, though I do find that actually writing my blog instead of just thinking helps! I have written more in the past month than in the 2 and a half years since starting my blog. I found it interesting to see last night in my stats that I have written 12,000 words in the past month, which is some motivation for me. I enjoy reading your blog a lot, Shelley! I like your pics and how you use them to illustrate your words, and I like that you keep your posts short. It’s easier on the reader to have less to read when they follow multiple people!

    1. Sounds like you’re making great progress on your blog writing! Thank you for stopping by to read my blog. I love stopping by to read yours, too and following you on Instagram. Keep on keeping on and you’ll find your niche – Thank you for sharing your thoughts and kind words of encouragement! PS – there are days that I’m still searching 😉

  2. I follow so many that I delight in reading any chance I get . . so many bloggers from so many cultures. . . and watching their blogs grow!!
I post any blog post I enjoy to Twitter so others may read also . .
Prompts~ I follow many but find most don’t appear in my feed so I have to go searching for them when I have time . . (glad prompt rules are negotiable. . . what if it has a word limit but I want to use the prompt anyways??)

    1. Me too, it is a challenge to remember who to read when, or if I even have the time to spend that day – I’m happy when I get around to reading and sharing, it is my therapy! #whatif it was easier to find the time? Happy Blogging to you – enjoy the journey!

  3. Lately, my favorite blogging prompts are One-Liner Wednesday and We are the World Blogfest. I encourage photographers to participate in the Wednesday WordPress photo challenge. I used to be a regular and learned much about taking photos from time spent there. Now, if I could only afford a fancy camera!

Nice post, Shelley. It’s always good to be encouraged and find new friends as a new blogger. I hope you find a new blogging friends today. 🙂

    1. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Mary! I still remember your kind support as I started out, I’m forever grateful that you did so and I still love hearing from you! I’m enjoying the new blogging friends who reach out and share their thoughts – hope you find new friends today too! PS – it’s bike weather and I’m joining you in finding the joy of biking!! YAY! :-)!

      1. Yay for bike riding! I plan to ride to work tomorrow because it will be too hot this weekend. Thanks for being a blogging buddy, Shelley. It’s good to commiserate with another cheese head! 😀😎

        1. I saw that the temps will be soaring again! Ugh…it’s a beautiful day today, so I better get a ride in before it gets too hot too! I’m happy to be your blogging buddy – Yes, YAY to fellow cheeseheads!! 🙂

  4. This is a lovely post and so thoughtful. I have to admit, I find blog posts that are exceptionally long difficult to read. I enjoy each and every blog I follow and try to make time to read every post. For this reason, if a blog post is really, really long, I might blip out of it. I’m not proud, but I’m being honest.

    1. Thank you, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and kind encouragement. I’m with you on length – I’m sure some of mine get too long! I try to break them up with photos as much as possible, hope that helps on those days when I’m extra windy! PS – I’m still smiling after reading your book – I remain thankful I found your blog to learn about it! Happy writing to you! https://overthehillontheyellowbrickroad.com/2018/06/05/reblog-conversation-with-my-book-resisting-physical-changes-in-older-age/

      1. I don’t find your posts long. I was referring to posts that go on and on and on forever. I’m sure some of my blog “conversations” get too long as well. Also, I’m beyond thrilled that you enjoyed my book. I couldn’t quite tell from you comment, but if you read the actual book (purchased at amazon.com) only if you are comfortable, would you consider writing a short review on amazon. com? Just a sentence or two will be so much appreciated. On the other hand, if adding a review is not your thing, NO WORRIES! In fact, I’ll never bring this subject up again. Let’s move on to our next posts and have fun. 🙂

        1. Thanks for the clarification, we all have our moments of having so many great thoughts to share it is hard to stop! 🙂 I purchased it on my GoodReads account and did leave a review there and I followed you there as well. I’d be happy to, just not sure how all that works if I didn’t buy it directly on Amazon? – any insight you have is welcomed! Happy Posting!

          1. Hi Shelley–thank you so much for the review on Goodreads! I just joined Goodreads and I’m not familiar with it yet, so please forgive me for not seeing the review. I’m figuring out how to navigate around that site and I’m still “duh” in that area. No need to do anything else. You know I’d return the favor in a flash. Don’t ever hesitate to ask!

          2. Thank you! I’m glad you found it. I’m new to Goodreads, too, so I thought maybe I goofed something up! I know where to find you…the yellow brick road is very familiar to me and one of my all-time favorite stories, and now I have your book version of it to brighten my journey!

  5. Thanks for posting this Shelly! You have been incredibly supportive of my blog & well, thank you! I finally decided to put the books running through my brain for years to my fingertips through blogging. It just makes sense. I’m about two months in. I miss the Daily Prompt, it’s weird, I couldn’t wait to get up in the morning to see what word would be presented. It was great when in Arizona, it came in at 5am. Now, I’m seeking the different prompts available because it is a great way to connect & be inspired. They are hard to find.

My blogs are https://downtoearthpositive.com/ and https://brownbagletter.wordpress.com/ Down to Earth Positive is just that, my response to the very negative era we live in. And the Brown Bag Letter are real stories matched with Anonymous Antique Photos. I love them both and it is great to be finally responding to my love for writing and storytelling. I’ll be following this thread in order to learn more from other bloggers, especially with the prompts so that I can benefit from fellow writers.

One of the frustrations I have is I believe that Facebook has “ghosted” me. I developed a page and although I started out with 50 followers, only 2 would see each day. All I got was FB ads wanting me to pay for more visibility. So, I created a closed group, which is better because they get notifications, but I find it frustrating. I wonder how many bloggers deal with this . . . is it worth paying for ads?

One of your questions was what would you do differently if you were to start over . . . I would have started MUCH SOONER! (Like 15 years ago!!!!!!!)

Thank you for being you! (OMG my response was longer than your post!) Karen

    1. Thank you, Karen, I adore that you shared your thoughts in such an honest and caring manner. It is so wonderful to read that you’re enjoying both of your blogs and that you’ve been inspired to dig deeper into your writing and storytelling. Thank you for sharing your blog links, too! Facebook is a small readership for me, not sure why, but I do know there are a few people who enjoy reading my posts. I look forward to checking out your blogs, and like you said, reading what other bloggers share for advice here on this post! Thank you for being you!!

  6. Hi Shelley!

I haven’t yet found a favorite writing prompt to replace Daily Post & Community Pool because I haven’t had time to look much. I have enjoyed participating in the Ragtag Daily Prompt (#RDP) and Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (#FOWC). I read too many columns to list them all, but the ones I have been following the longest and/or look for almost every day are A Questioner’s Journey; Cheynoea’s Thoughts; I’m a Writer Yes I Am!; Musings by Winnie; This, That & the Other; Quaint Revival; Ideas Become Words; Bitchin’ In the Kitchen; Liz Charnes; gosh, I could go on and on.

What would I do differently if I were to start over? That’s easy. I would be more deliberate and discriminating in choosing which blogs to follow. In the beginning, I followed lots of blogs and lots of different kinds of blogs in an effort to see how it’s done, figure out what I wanted my blog to be, and find my niche. I ended up following a lot of blogs that quickly wore thin for me. I recently went through and unfollowed a bunch of blogs I never much cared for and that hadn’t posted anything in 3 or more months, but there are still a lot of other followed blogs I haven’t had the heart to unfollow. My 1st piece of advice to new Bloggers is: Take your time; read widely but also deeply within the blogs you read. Make sure you’re interested enough in a blog to follow it long term before clicking that “Follow” button. If you post consistently, several times a week, for month after month, year after year, your Blog will grow organically and, eventually, exponentially.

You already know my Blog’s link, but just in case there are any other interested parties reading my comment, here it is:

Thank you for doing what you do, Shelley. Keep up the great work!

    Love,

    Denny

    1. Hi Denny, it is always great to hear from you! Thank you for sharing your words of wisdom. I most definitely wish I’d known about the selective choosing of blogs to follow as part of the process. I’m positive new bloggers reading your thoughts should take them to heart and learn from your experience. Thanks for sharing your prompt choices and your blog’s link – I highly recommend others to follow your blog 🙂 PS – welcome back from your vacation – hope you had a terrific time!! xx

        1. Ah, yes, one of those kinds of trips – I just got around to reading your post – still adore the cross-stitch message!

  7. Hi Shelley, It is lovely to meet you.

I am working collaboratively on doing daily prompts, we started the day the Daily Post sadly died.

Originally we were each of us posting our daily prompts on our days (we take it in turns) then reblogging but we were getting feedback that this was quite confusing, so we are launching a new blog. The address is here:
    https://wordofthedaychallenge.wordpress.com/

In addition to that I enjoy doing Deb Whittam’s 50 word thursdays. She posts a picture and a phrase that needs to be incorporated into a very short story or poem. This is an example of one I did here:
    https://talesfromthemindofkristian.wordpress.com/2018/06/07/50-word-thursday-4-her-little-secret/

and (not to labour the point, i hope) I also enjoy taking inspiration from The Haunted Wordsmith who does daily Three Things challenges, This is an example:
    https://talesfromthemindofkristian.wordpress.com/2018/06/12/the-three-things-challenge-12th-june-a-cold-classroom/

I also have a lot of Blogging pals who’s blogs I love.
The Creative PTSD Gal, Britchin’ in the Kitchin’, A guy called Bloke, Thriving not Surviving. To name but a few…

    All the best.

    1. Hi Kristian, great to meet you! Thank you for sharing all the links and your tips on word prompts for fellow bloggers. I’m looking forward to checking them out and the blogs you follow. All the best to you, too!!

    1. Thank you, Linda! I appreciate the prompt tip and your kind comments. I enjoy participating in your prompts every week! I’ll look into the Thursday door one too!!!

  8. I appreciate the friendship you gave me, Shelley. You were one of those people who gave me confidence when I was just starting out. Thank you, Shelley!

    1. Winnie, I appreciate your friendship as well. You were (are) one of those people who helped (helps) me keep going, too, for that, I’m incredibly grateful! It has been fun watching your blog grow and evolve!
