A Sunday Road Trip to Bucknuckles

When you marry into a family who loves to drive on country roads, a road trip to any exotic (or eclectic) place happens when the Corvettes are revving to hit the road.

My companion, Mr., a guy with a gorgeous smile, and some miles of roads to conquer.  We were happy to hit the road.

Where did we go?

To the tiny town of Alma, Wisconsin.  To apparently the place to be on Sunday, September 1, 2019.

It looked like there would be standing room only, there’s not a lot of parking in front.  At least all the motorcycles were taking up space there.  Don’t worry, though, we found plenty of spaces in the back where we parked.

It was the hot spot to visit for lots of Harley riders.

Rumor had it that Bucknuckles has great burgers.  So that was our mission for the day.  We were pleasantly surprised to find a table inside.  And a very welcoming young waitress.  “If you want alcohol, you’ll have to go to the bar to get it yourself, I’m too young to serve you.”

There was so much to see on the walls, the ceilings, the floor…everywhere we looked, there was more to see.

It was impressive, to say the least.  I imagined the American Pickers helped them stock the place, or they have a gold mine that the American Pickers would enjoy seeing?

The Buffalo Burger and fries I had were delicious.

It was worth the drive.  A quick-stand-in-line-at-the-bathroom-break before we headed out – and we found there was still more to see.

We didn’t realize there was outside seating and dining when we got there.  We walked through that area after we ate our meal inside the bar.  Fire-grilled food via a Fire Truck.  Yum, and appeared to be quite the hit.

We ended up back around by where we parked and had to check out the Camel Toe Mall before leaving.  Trust me, the lovely lady who was helping customers blushed too when she explained to us the meaning of the names of the restaurant and the mall.  In the shop, there were objects you could buy that were handmade with all sorts of metal parts, and, of course, t-shirts and hats, and such.  This cute little pig was hanging outside – I bet the crafty person made it too.

And this fun little spot to pose for a photo-op – I love these two role models for us (my in-laws) – they have been married for 61 years and they always have fun together.  It’s our goal to still be having fun and smiling like them when we have another 31 years under our marriage belts.

The scenery around the place was very rustic and welcoming.  Worth the trip!

We jumped in the cars and headed back home.

Before we left, one of the bikers offered to take our photo!

Bye-bye until next time!  We’ll be back, it was a fun trip and a great place to stop to enjoy a meal!

And…a fun way to enjoy some ‘g’s’ in the Corvettes on the road back home!

I couldn’t resist taking a video of the curves…enjoy!

  1. What a fun day! Having grown up in the boonies, we loved nothing better than a Sunday drive to, well, anywhere. 🙂 I still have that instinct. My DH doesn’t understand, having grown up in a city. Ha!

Looks like a fun place to end up. And I love a curvy country road in a sports car. Woo hoo!

    1. It was fun. LOL – DH is missing out, hope you capture him once and a while and show him how much fun it can be?! My father-in-laws cars are fun to drive. Those curves were a hoot for sure!

    1. Thanks, John – yes, my FIL’s cars are nice. Those country road curves are a blast, thank you for taking the extra minute and some seconds to watch the video. My little camera doesn’t do it justice, but it was fun to try to capture it!

    1. Yes, it was a hoot. I don’t think it is possible to take it all in in one sitting. It certainly is busy for such an out of the way spot. Perfect for a day trip.

    1. Thank you, Sue, it was fun. Thanks too for the compliment on the outfit. The little booties are one of my favorite fall pull-ons – they are so comfy.

    1. It was a blast – yeah, everytime I looked somewhere I saw something new. It was a great day, thanks for stopping by to check it out!

    1. I hope you’re safe and free from the path of Dorian. I saw this morning that it had down graded to Cat 3? You’re in my thoughts and prayers. My nephew lives in West Palm Beach – he keeps us posted on how he’s doing. Stay safe!!

  2. So that’s where the Harley gangs are headed when they barrel up 1st Ave NYC below my windows! We don’t have restaurants named Bucknuckles here in the Big Apple. We have Cafe D’Alsace, El Parador, Thalassa, Katsu-Hama, la la la. Of course if you look closely at the food, it’s usually a variation of French Fries and a hamburger !

Your blogs just keep getting nicer and nicer, Quaint One.

    1. LOL – yeah, the Harley gangs appear to really like this spot. When we Googled it, we found many of the reviews and comments on Facebook were from bikers. Munching on a good burger and fries, no matter what they call it, is fun to do.
Thank you for your kind words of encouragement :-)!

  3. What a fun place, fun trip, fun car. How wonderful to find out all about Alma, Wisconsin!
Thank you so much for sharing.
I love country town living, for sure!!!

    1. Thank you, Cindi, it was a fun place. I’d have a blast with you there! Alma is a really small place, but this spot keeps the town rumbling in cycle noises.

  4. I have a pig that looks very much like the one in your photo, but mine is a watering can. Are you going to explain the meaning of the names Bucknuckles and Camel Toe so we can blush too?

    Jude

    1. That pig was so darn cute. I bet your watering can is cute too and functional! LOL – well, let’s see the Bucknuckles is to describe the male parts of a buck (deer) and the camel toe describes the female parts. She was a bit more graphic in word choices, hope my choices are blushworthy enough ;-)!

  5. Looks like a fun place – love the sign in the ladies room “who are you calling a lady” and the meal looked good with its unusual-looking fries.

    1. Thank you, Linda. There were so many signs to see, and there were more colorful ones inside the women’s bathroom. I didn’t share those! The fries were amazing – extra salty. Close to Tostitos.

        1. The buffalo meat was good – it’s more dense than beef, I wish I had a better word to describe it…maybe another burger would help?!
