Copper: Can I write the blog post for you today?
Me: Um…sure…but why do you want to do that?
Copper: Cuz’ you’re looking a bit lost, kind of like you have no idea what to write about?
Me: Yeah, I kind of am. You see the prompt is snail mail, and I already wrote about that a couple times before, so I’m not really into it today. I love the #OneLiner Wednesdays, I want to participate…but…the photos I want to use, don’t fit it, and, well…
Copper: Jezz…stop your whining already. No worries, Mom, I’ve got your back on this one today. I won’t be as creative as you, but if you insert the photos from last night – you know the ones of me, right? You do that, and together, we’ll get this post done!
Me: Yeah, I know which pictures you’re talking about. Go for it, I can’t wait to hear your tale.
Copper: Ready, set, here I go.
The nightly tale starts with a new patio and a bench for two. Every evening, after dinner, the three of us (me, Mr. and Mrs., aka Mom) head outside. They sit, chat, and relax. It is heavenly. The best part is…I have the freedom to roam around the yard. Oh, dear, it’s one of those days for me, I’m feeling deja vu, I guest posted about the yard before!
I used to only get to walk around in the backyard. Now that I’ve gotten more mature and don’t run toward the road, I’ve got the whole front yard to sniff and smell around.
There are big birds and little birds (see the little hummingbird above the morning dove?)
and, as the humans call them, the damn woodpecker birds
The big birds I like to chase, but they always land in the trees or fly off before I can get them. I chalk it up to practice runs.
But, if I’m patient, I know I’ll see the other animals. I can smell them before they appear.
If I’m really lucky, a rabbit shows up – the humans usually point it out by saying “Where’s the bunny?”
Then the chase is on.
I swear, one of these days, I’ll catch one.
Yeah, I know, it is rare to catch one, now that I’m getting slow in my old age. I’ll keep an eye out for the little rascal and I’ll be back sometime to let you know if the tail-chasing tale gets any better.
Post inspiration thanks to Copper, Linda Hill’s #OneLiner Wednesday, and special credits to one clever rabbit.
PS – Do you enjoy hearing from Copper? Did you see the small hummingbird in the photo? I didn’t see it until editing, so it was a cute surprise for me!
Copper looks a lovely fellow, and he has a nice writing style 😉
Thank you, Kristian – Copper appreciates your kudos! 🙂
Copper is an inspiration to all small dogs who yearn for a grand chase or adventure. Git’em next time! … g
Aw, thank you, g – As long as there’s a rabbit in sight, Copper keeps on trying – he’s gotten close enough to grab a tuft of fluff once in his life!
Copper’s writing and your photos made a superb post. Of course, the birds and bunny were cute, too!
Copper beamed as I read your comments to him :-)! Thank you, Irene!
Oooh, as a bunny parent I hope you don’t encourage him too much to chase the bunns 🙂

Just the outside, wild bunnies that eat my plants and destroy things in our backyard. The domesticated bunnies he’s never been around :-)!
I loved hearing Copper’s point of view!
Thank you, Laura! Copper appreciates your encouragement!
Sure, I enjoy Copper 🙂 And I saw the hummingbird before I saw the dove, actually. Most enjoyable post.
Thank you, Linda – Copper appreciates your feedback! Wow, I’m impressed – a nice eye for detail you have!
Definitely enjoyed hearing Copper’s thoughts! I loved that photo of the hummingbird.
Thank you, Winnie – Copper appreciates your kudos!
You’re welcome, Shelley!
