A pet’s perspective on longing

I often wonder what the pets in my life are thinking.  I’m lucky to have furry friends around to keep me pondering about life and posing for my photography practice.  3 of our own – 1 dog and 2 cats.  Rarely, if ever, are they pictured all 3 together.

As it should be, they each have their own personality.  I enjoy the challenge to capture their individual uniquenesses.  The possibilities are endless.

Tizzie looks brave, or like she’s one to vex if she can’t get out the door.  Once she’s out though, if the wind blows or a loud sound happens, she’s at the door ready to go back in to complain about not being outside.

More times than not, she’s content to just watch the outside movements from the window.

Dessy – will go outside, sometimes, but prefers inside where she can pester Mr. for food.

Copper – is the lucky one, he gets to go outside often.  He’s like me, he loves it out there.

He knows better than to run to the road, and he’ll stick around in the yard.  He’s my faithful companion.

My extended family of pets includes our neighbor’s cat, Ziggy.  He’s lean and long.

Open the door, out he runs to begin his hunt – he’s all adventure, all the time.  Look at that intense look he gets on his face.

He’s impressive, even though he’d rather be out and about, he comes back running when called.  He’s very camera-shy.  Someday, I hope to get a great photo of him.

And then, there’s our little Bee.  I miss visiting our grandkitty.

I think she’d be like Ziggy, out the door, and on the hunt, if she had it her way.  She’s a second story cat right now, so her hunting is window based.

She’s content to keep an eye on visitors from her own little office jungle treehouse.

As I play outside with my camera, I’m on the hunt for adventures and new possible ways to catch a familiar object in a different way.  I long to catch that perfect flower, sunset, pet, or some kind of unique shot.

The long and short of it is, in those moments I am taken away into a world I long to discover.  It is like standing at the edge of an ocean, alone or with someone special – the endlessness is alluring.  If you let your heart’s desires play with the moment you have right in front of you, you are in the perfect world made just for you to discover something new.

I believe that our pets feel that way too.  Cheers to adventures!

Post Inspiration – #AugustBreak2018 – Longing (Susannah invites you to check it out or join in any time by clicking here); Word Prompt of the Day – Vex.  A few of my favorite longing poems to read are by these 3 bloggers – Andrew at TheLonelyAuthorBlog and Debbie at PipersAdventures and Winnie’s Musings.  Hope you have fun taking an adventure to visit their blogs!

PS – Do you wonder if pets are like us, longing to discover new things and longing to be free to go wherever they want to when they want to?  What do you long for?
