A nature walk in Negril, Jamaica

From the moment you’re driven up to the main gate of Couples Swept Away in Negril, Jamaica, you know you’ve been transported by the resort bus to a special tropical place.

You will be swept away in more ways than one.  The resort prides themselves in their exquisite (dreamy) nature filled grounds.

It is known for its beach.

The moment you see that first sunset and every one after it, you, too, will be in love with being there.  Never wanting to leave…

The resort is gorgeous with its concrete winding paths throughout the trees.  The view from our room was not too shabby, right?!, even if it wasn’t looking out at the beach front.

The staff and groundskeepers make it possible for the guest to wander throughout the resort in a magical maze meant to help you escape into the beauty of Negril.

Where…no shoes are required on the beach…

We are smitten with the beach.  The sand gravity factor is hard to avoid.  But in order to get to the beach from your room, no worries, you won’t be disappointed.  It is an enjoyable walk and you get to see beauty everywhere you look.

Even the cats (yes…they have cats!)

of the resort have it pretty darn nice.

Our last visit to the resort, my youngest said to us, “I wanna do the nature walk this time.”

“Okay, what’s nature walk all about?”

“A walk to learn about the trees and the plants they have on the resort.”

“Cool…count me in.”

And off we went.  The resort hostess (who said she’s been employed there for 7-9 years in the environmental department), explained to us about the different trees, which are always in season,

the fruit-bearing trees,

trees to stay away from – bumping into them hurts,

we even saw, Jamaican snow…

and the colorful plants,

the delicate flowers,

and she showed us the nursery where they nurture and grow plants and trees so the resort grounds are always in tip-top shape.

Hope you enjoyed seeing the beauty of the resort – it’s breath-taking and it doesn’t require much narrative on my part!

The nature walk was a wonderful way to pause and noticed the little things they do to make sure their guests will be swept away!

PS – Hope you enjoyed the walking tour.  My heart is heavy thinking about Notre Dame Cathedral and the people in Paris.  The beauty of the cathedral can never be restored to its original state, but my hope is when they proceed with the renewal it is beautiful as well.  xx

  1. These are beautiful pictures. It must have felt so good walking through there after leaving several feet of snow behind.

    1. Thank you, glad you enjoyed them. Yes, it was so wonderful to feel the warmth of the salty air and to see the greenery along with the blue colors of the ocean. 😉

  2. I love the pictures! I have never been to Negril only Mobay and Ocho Rios. I’ve heard that the beaches are beautiful!

    1. Yay, glad you enjoyed them. If you get the chance, go to Negril, that side of the island has the BEST beach fronts you’ll find.

  3. I like the photo display configuration! Very nice. Gorgeous photos…you must miss it already.
One question – was it at all buggy?

    1. Thank you! Yes, we miss it, A LOT! It wasn’t bad at all. But we’re not late night people, we like the early morning beach walks. They do have some mosquitos, I hear, but we only experienced a few bites. There are so many birds and geckos there, they do keep the bug population down.

        1. Yes, and especially there, they integrate the wildlife as much as possible. The cats keep the mice away, too! 😉

  4. Gorgeous photos! It’s lovely to see the tropics while watching our cold rain melt the snow. LOL.

I share your sadness about Notre Dame. Have been going over my pics from our 2009 trip and feeling very fortunate to have seen it before the fire. So grateful they had so many pieces of art removed for renovation and that the Rose Windows survived. Devastating.

    1. Thank you! Yes, it’s nice to see tropics instead of snow. We have sunshine here today, but still snow on the ground. At least it is melting fast. I’ve never been to France, you’re lucky to have seen it in person. We had a foreign exchange student from Paris in 2009, and then my daughter went there to stay with their family in 2010. I’m happy to read they did save many pieces of artwork and the Rose Windows survived. It is still so sad. ;-(

  5. Thank you for sharing your walk with us. So wonderful. The flowers were amazing. The beach, not a big thrill as I grew up in Florida so I saw it every day. But it is relaxing.

    1. Thank you, Anita. That’s so interesting…I just can’t imagine not being thrilled by the beach, but then again, I’ve seen so much snow this past winter, I’d be fine not seeing that for a while – in pictures and in person 😉 no matter how magical it looks for the holidays!

      1. I did and you inspired me to try and learn a few more things so I tried the gallery layout, and justified margins. I have always bemoaned we could not do justified margins and I think Hugh mentioned it in his post. Did that and centered my photo images, but then I had a setback – I thought the centered header photo looked odd with the title at flush left, so tried the undo button – you had an issue with it one time … it took away one of the columns in the gallery, so I had to undo again. I have to try more next time, but feeling more comfortable with it.

          1. Shelley – I wanted to e-mail you this post in case you’re not following Hugh – it is on slideshows. My Comcast e-mail is down and we are having stormy weather early evening. I was late getting to Reader last night due to experimenting in Gutenberg and barely got to anyone’s posts before it stormed. I hate getting too far behind. Anyway, here is the slideshow post … that will be the next item I tackle: https://hughsviewsandnews.com/2019/04/17/how-to-add-a-slideshow-to-your-wordpress-blog-post-using-gutenberg/

          2. OMG – I’m so excited, that’s awesome! I need to give it a try to see if it works like I hope it will!! Thank you for sharing the link!

          3. You’re welcome Shelley – just don’t know if it applies to a self-hosted blog. I’ll struggle to get a post done with walks being scarce this week and no new pictures to use. I still have not registered for those additional 5K walks … don’t want to get burned again by inclement weather.

          4. If I write my post in the .org login, that’s I’m using Gutenberg for writing. I’ve figured out that I can write there using “G” then press publish in my .com access and it works. If I try to publish in the .org after writing it, that’s when it breaks. It’s all a cat and mouse game. Sometimes fun, sometimes frustrating. Keeps blogging interesting on a whole different level!

  6. Beautiful post. Jamaica is one of my favorite places. I was there almost 30 years ago, and I remember tearing up on the last day because I didn’t want to leave. We even discussed how to buy property there. Time to go back. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thank you, I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the post. Ah, yes, the tearing up happens. There’s so much joy and happiness to be had while there, I always feel sad leaving, too. The resort that we go to has a crying couch just for those people waiting for the bus to leave. I hope you find a way to go back soon. xx
